Just updated the original post with some new pictures. My photography skills are a little lacking so the lighting isn't the best, but there you go. I used the Vallejo satin varnish, it looks good. Does it protect paint well?

Hmmm. Maybe you could recast it, to get rid of the warping leg issue. Looks great.
