yup. i think the big, well padded feet add an extra sense of weight to the sculpture. looking at it now, the big guy really looks like something that can truck anything his size or smaller. i can never stop being amazed by how heavily built this theropod would of been.

started on the opposite side. time to get it up to par :)

This guy is looking awesome! Really nice new progress. This guy is gonna be a hulk when its all done!

Id suggest on your earlier pieces that you decide not to cast, you should paint them up nice and sell them. You can use the funds to get more art supplies :)

welp, i'm out of clay again. finished off the last of the clay on the body feathers. good news, the feathering shapes on the neck and body are done and ready for detailing. bad news is, i'm out of clay :'(. so the any form of major progress on the big guy has to be put on hold until i buy more clay.

I buy my sculpey from morezmore on ebay. The best value by far. They have all kinds of stuff. They even have a good deal on magic sculpt if you wanted to go that route. Its way different than polymer andtakes a little patience to learn itsways.

i buy my clay from a hobby store. but its a bit of a ride from my house. i hopefully have time to get some sometime during the weekend. thanks for the recommendation btw. i'll look into it.
in the meantime, this is how far i gotten with the big guy before running out.

i have done s much as i can for the tyrannotitan and finished all the body feathers. with that being said, i am out of super sculpey firm and the local hobby shop i usually purchase it from didn't have any in stock. so as the tyrannotitan awaits more progress, i decided to wip out  some leftover super sculpey and make some small scale sculptures. i decided to do 1:20 scale sculptures of velociraptor mongoliensis and protoceratops hellenikorhinus. these guys are progressing fast and i would like to to start off learning to mold and cast with these small sculpts. heres the progress of protoceratops hellenikorhinus thus far. progress pics of velociraptor are soon to come

thank you Archinto.

this has to be the weirdest head i have ever attempted to sculpt

Agreed, when you think about it Ceratopsian heads are pretty strange.

One good thing is there is a lot of material to look at to get the head shape right. Id look at a variety of skulls to decide which will be the best shape for your torso there. Seems there was a lot of skull variation in protoceratopsians

Agreed. Velociraptor and Protoceratops are so well known from the point of view of the amount and quality of the fossils. It's surprising really that there aren't more Proto figures, but that probably has something to do with the fact that it isn't a predator and it didn't appear in Jurassic Park (which is probably a mercy as far as peoples' perception of it is concerned...) On the subject of variation, it has been proposed that it's sexual dimorphism. This is far from definite and agreed upon, but it's something to consider. I've personally wondered if it could have anything to do with age, or even status within a group if it was a social animal - I believe I read somewhere that individuals some social species do change physically when they become more dominant, but I could be wrong. Of course this is all theory and it could just have been a very variable species, like humans are.

protoceratops hellenikorhinus is just such an oddball even compared to protoceratops andrewsi  . everything from the duel nasal horns and the arched keels to it's massive size and wider frill width.  it is interesting to speculate that this could be an example of sexual dimorphism and traits within the species. protoceratops hellenikorhinus could of just been a big buff alpha male who uses these facial features to attract the smaller, single nasal horn mates. of course, this is just baseless speculation but an pretty neat idea regardless.

all in all, basal ceratopsians need to chill out with their wacky facial ornaments, makes what i love doing way harder XD

placing the frill on. it now looks more like a protoceratops rather then a narrow snouted warthog

That looks really cool. The shaping is coming out good. This is going to be an interesting model indeed! :)

i'm planning on getting more super sculpey firm to start working on the tyrannotitan over the weekend. so i'm gonna try to speed up my progress with these two sculptures.

Archinto

Those are looking great, I especially love the expression put into the proto's face. The eyebrow ridges look cool. Keep up the good work! Looking forward to your next update! :)

Beautiful collection of sculpts.  ;D

There was a brief sidebar about sauropod models. A long while back I picked up a Krentz Jobaria in 1:72 and to me that seemed like the perfect compromise between having the room for more than 2 or 3 sauropod models  or having wifey on your case for having big dinosaur models all over the house. I had a number of them commissioned in that scale before the sculptor became preoccupied and he dropped the commission.
Anyway, just my 2¢ FWIW.
