New Kickstarter update, which features a teaser about "surprises" for the Beasts of the Mesozoic line:

Not sure if this is hinting at new artwork available from Kuo, or if it's alluding to 1/18 scale raptor figures that Silva has suggested could be a possibility.

Very interesting.  And posted 37 weeks ago, that's long before he made the cartoon roadrunner raptor.  So unless he's been planning that for a very long time, maybe it's unrelated.  Could it be that there's a secret 18th raptor waiting to be unveiled?!  I doubt it, but I hope I'm wrong!  :))

I haven't got caps of these, but he alluded to this multiple times, some comments made as far back as the Ceratopsian line concept art stage o.o Wounded what he's up to and why this blue raptor is so special...

Hmmm
He's said before that eventually he's going to make figurines of the larger raptor species (Utahraptor, Dakotaraptor, etc), so possibly one of those is going to be blue?

I ordered 1 figure (the dromaeosaurus) to see how I feel. I'm a very picky collector. If I like it, I may purchase more. On the whole, has everyone else who ordered these toys been happy with them?

Mine haven't arrived yet, but from what I've seen both here and on FB everyone seems to be happy with their purchases. The figures do have some issues but none of them are deal breakers. LeapingLaelaps summed up all the issues most people seem to be having quite well

Quote from: LeapingLaelaps on March 30, 2018, 02:37:36 PM
Atrociraptor marshalli:

- Jaw won't close all the way on one side
- Area where neck attaches to body is a bit loose, and if you move him back and forth his neck/head flops around
- Area with missing paint on bottom of tail and on elbow near joint

Balaur bondoc:

- A few areas with paint scraped off (one thigh, neck)
- Very slight underbite

Dromaeosaurus albertensis:

- Area on inner leg scraped down the the point plastic is showing. Almost looks like it got caught on something sharp and peeled back.
- Small area on forearm near joint where paint is missing

Dromaeosaurus albertensis (Fans Choice)

- Mouth won't close all the way
- Black markings going down from eye don't line up on eye on one side

Linheraptor exquisitus

- Joint on one arm (elbow joint) has a habit of popping off if bent too much or at an angle

Pyroraptor olympius

- Jaw won't close completely
- Area of underarm on one side missing dry brushing

Pyroraptor olympius (Fans Choice)

- Area where neck attaches to body is a bit loose, and if you move him back and forth his neck/head flops around

Velociraptor mongoliensis #1:

- Jaw deformed and misaligned, unable to close properly

Velociraptor mongoliensis #2:

- Quite a few areas with paint scraped off (neck, face, thighs)

Velociraptor osmolskae:

- First section where neck connects to body sits a little bit crooked, if I try and adjust it it just goes back into place

Zhenyuanlong suni:

- Due to the size of the tail, if bent up too far it pops off, but other than that he's perfect :)

Zhenyuanlong suni (Fans Choice):

- Due to the size of the tail, if bent up too far it pops off
- Minor paint scrapes on one inner thigh
- One arm is loose and won't stay up, keeps flopping down

LeapingLaelaps

Honestly? Despite the issues I've noted, I'm incredibly happy with them. I need to fix the paint scuffs on some of them and probably seal them all with something (possibly Krylon Colormaster Spray?) to prevent further chipping/scuffing (which David said apparently happens with ones that were produced first? I can't remember)

But other than that, I love them all so much. They're incredibly fun to play with and pose, and I spend a lot of time just sitting there moving them around and playing with them. I'm working on making two big shelves for my hallway near my bedroom where I can display them all. I've already got the accessory packs displayed on shelves in the hall and every time I go to the bathroom/bedroom I end up standing in the hall for a bit just looking at them

I absolutely recommending getting some, and if you don't like them you can always resell them later I suppose!

Okay, so no one else has had problems with the body clips not fitting Zhenyuanlong?  If not for the extra that came with the accessory pack, I'd be in trouble because the one that came with my Zhen broke because it's not big enough.
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

I've run into a number of issues honestly (some minor, some major?). I'll list them below:

My Dromeaosaurus jaw won't close all the way, although the fan's choice one is a bit better in that regard. It was also slightly warped if I recall, but I fixed it with a hair dryer. The Mononykus from my Desert Accessory Pack also had a warped jaw that I had to fix that way. The Fan's Choice Dromaeosaurus was missing the orange stripes on its legs. I never did get around to fixing it. One of the ball peg's snapped in my Buitreraptor's foot when I went to move it (if I'm recalling correctly, as it was a while ago). I can't get either of my Dromaeosaurus to work with the jumping rod clip because their pelvis area is too thick. I have not tried the hair dryer trick on that, but not sure if it is worth trying (worked with my Velociraptor though). Knee joints were really stiff on them (probably the worst issue, since I was afraid moving them might cause them to break, but thankfully they have not). They also really do need the posing rod to stand, but even that can be a little bit of a pain depending on how loose the toes and ankles joints are, and how and where the posing rod is placed.

Now all those things aside, I still quite enjoy them, in both paint deco and sculpts, but I definitely haven't really fiddled around with any of them since I've gotten Mattel's JP/JW figures (and also the new shelf they now reside on). They do make excellent display pieces (especially combined with the accessory packs, and the packaging backgrounds if applicable), but at this point, I've not really been taking advantage of their articulation since the first few weeks I've gotten them, since I want them to stay as pristine as possible. That might change somewhat when I get the Wave 2 figures I've been waiting on.

Edit: I just saw that mine shipped or is shipping soon. Will be nice to finally get the rest of those little diorama's on that shelf with the accessory packs filled out.

Your Dromaeosaurus problem is the same that I have with Zhenyuanlong.  But what other way is there to stand these things up?  Right now, mine is perched haphazardly on the broken one because I don't want to risk breaking the other.  I hope my Adasaurus doesn't have this kind of issue when it gets here.

The only thing I am worried about is the paintwork. Even factory paints can chip off on articulated toys, due to the friction between joints. I may want to repaint mine some day, and I know that acrylic paint won't hold up as well as factory paints. I intend to varnish them as well, but that will only go so far.

I used to customise Transformers so I know the headaches that come with repainting action figures.

My dromie came this morning!

What I like about the toy:
-Nice and weighty feel in hand.
-The joints don't look as bad I as I thought they would.
- The tail is bendable

What I dislike:
-The toes keep popping off
-The neck articulation is quite limited- not sure if that's a particular problem on my copy, or all the figures in general. I wanted to pose it so it had its head under its wing (as if it were sleeping) but the limited neck motion prevents that.
- There are just too many joints in this figure to make repainting a possibility. Even if you can find a way to stop the paint from rubbing, the paint and varnish will clog up the joints, making posing difficult.

I'm someone who likes to customise their dinosaurs. I want to be able to make something my own. Which isn't really possible with this guy.

This is a work of art, make no mistake. I'm have not decided whether it's for me, though.

Shadowknight1

Well, that's a cute way to keep from putting it onto the posing rod.   If you wanted to customize one though, you could've gotten in on the build a raptor sets.  Personally, I kind of regret not putting down money for the kestral colored Dromaeosaurus, that coloration looks so neat to me.

Speaking of, I reached out to David and he told me that the undersides of Zhenyuanlong and Dromaeosaurus are indeed to big to use the body clip, but it's intended to rest under them.  Not...ideal, if you ask me.  I would've preferred something a bit more secure, but that's what ya get.

I've gotten my Microraptor/Forest set, and it's great overall - but somehow, the hole in the bottom of the foot which is apparently meant to affix it to the little pins doesn't seem to be deep enough to work properly. Anybody else having this problem?

I had the same problem with my Mononykus.
Then I saw that the hole in the foot it's not aligned with the foot's base but it's oblique.
You have to put the pin into the foot with a certain angle and the pin will fit the hole perfectly.

So glad to find this older post today!  My Wetlands and Forest environment packs arrived yesterday from Everything Dinosaur.  I struggled and struggled to try to insert the pins into the Microraptor and Buitreraptor's feet to no avail, but changing the angle worked perfectly.  Thank heavens for the DTF!

I love the bases.  At present my new CollectA Iguanodon is enjoying the "Forest" setting (arrived in the same box).  He might find a permanent home there.  I've already grown fond of the Buitreraptor, the Microraptor less so - but I wanted the Forest base rather than the dinosaur in that case.  I like the bases so much I'm sorely tempted to go the whole hog and buy another.

I have a feeling the same thing would happen. But maybe I'll give it a go.

The reason I'm skeptical is because the factory paint for the painted figures is PVC paint, which is a special kind of paint you cannot buy due to health and safety reasons. It actually penetrates the plastic, making it extremely resistant to rubbing.

Acrylic paint (which I use) only sits on the surface of the plastic, which is why it can be rubbed away so easily by friction.

Thanks, I have him on the desk right now :)
