lol they've been landing on everything here at the shop..usually near the fan. I think the heat is getting to them as well.

At least it wasn't a Meganeura... ;)

True. Its smaller version scared me as a kid. But it was still huge!

Might try and build a Meganeura at some point..just have to figure out the best way to cut plexi for the wings...not to mention make the veining in them.

I'm embarking on my first large scale sculpture, and this thread has been an inspiration!  I'd like to start on some big bugs; maybe I can make you a meganeuropteran.

I've cut a fair bit of plexi in my day; you can use woodworking tools, you just have to go slow, use fine-toothed blades, and keep the hot plastic bits cleared away before they re-solidify.

stargatedalek

you could solder the glass or plexi pieces together to make the wing membranes, but its very difficult to solder plexi
these are amazing sculptures

Thank you both!

It's great to hear we've inspired you Newt ! One of, if not the greatest , compliment an artist can receive ! ;D

It's been years since I cut any plexi..probably 10 or more.  If you'd like to create one for us to display here in our Park that would be great ! I'd be more than happy to put your name on it as well.   Part of my dream was to get paleo-artists from everywhere involved here we're slowly working towards that in one capacity or another.  :)

That's the idea I was thinking on Stargatedalek, it would have to be thing and sturdy though with no seams at all for water to creep in. Sounds like it would need some experimentation. ;)

I have a sign saying " Don't feed the dinosaurs! " at the front..this is not a place to dispose of your kids people..lol

Keep an eye out for the new issue of Prehistoric Times, it has an article by me( edited by our good friend Doug Watson) about our Park here. I was very happy Mike included it so soon ! :)

Our Shapeways figure has so far sold two copies. Not very promising prospects for more unfortunately.  Anyone have any feedback or recommendations for how to boost sales on it feel free to let me know. I was a little concerned the price was too much.

perhaps a resin model molded from the 3D print would sell better than a 3D print?
it would be more time consuming...

thats cool, I'll have to keep an eye out for this article

It might indeed..the thing is the investment is so much more. Time and money-wise really. The fact I can't sell this one as is..well more than two of them so far. Doesn't inspire me to drop a few hundred more on molding and casting you know ?

Yeah I hope it's in color..at least part of it anyway.. lol If anyone reads be sure to let me know what you thought. It's the first time I've written anything similar since being out of school.

Bluff City, TN.  It's only an 11 hour drive, get going!  ;D

I should have my current sculpture project done by the first of August; I'll get started on Meganeura immediately after.  I'm thinking it'll be easiest to cast the critter, so I may as well make a few.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Awesome ! I totally agree..if your able to why not make a swarm ? :)

Teaching kids at Thomas Memorial Library in Bluff City how putting together fossil evidence leads us to form theories about what we find and what we can learn from our discoveries !

Oh yeah.  I mean we're open every day but last year we took the Saturday before Halloween and did Trick r' Treat with the Dinosaurs. It was a big hit !

Our haunted attraction, The FUNHOUSE is setup in Sept , we run fri-sat in October, then we tear it all down in November.  That event is located at another place in Bluff City, separate from the dinosaur park, we're partnered with a 2nd haunted attraction there.

The dinosaur park during this time is run like normal except for having the Halloween trick or treat event.
