Thank you, we've been hard at work at it. Interestingly though it's only been in physical progress a bit over a week so far.  This new process is really the way to go I think. Normally say with the Triceratops, we would still be at the body framing stage at this point and now we are actually applying wire and vinyl now.  We might actually have all the skin work done on this before winter. :)

Cool Thagomizer! How are you going to attach the plates?
In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.

That it is..we all must honor Thag for his great sacrifice and giving us such an appropriate name for this splendid wonder of dinosaurian weaponry.  ;D

At the moment the plan is to wrap them in wire a third-halfway up, apply foam, then wrap in vinyl. The wire will give us a base to attach from it on the plate to the body.

Is this the most complicated model you've done, what with the plates and all?

Hmm..I'd have to give that one some thought.  I did a Kentrosaurus a couple years ago and it's spines haven't worked out the way I planned, they started to droop, but it some of the same difficulties. So a good learning experience.  The big guys all have had their issues, the T-Rex was a pain to balance, the Trike had a HUGE head to mount, our Apatosaurus it was "fun" figuring out the neck and tail, then a nightmare hoping it would stay up after the  supports were out. So it's hard to tell right now.

The plates I'm building on the ground but my friend will be installing them. Three feet up a ladder is the end of my comfort zone...lol

Very cool to see some WIP pics. :)  You really get that sense of wonder seeing it in scale!  Got a color scheme in mind already?

I try to post some for each project..sometimes we work quicker and I miss a few..lol

That's the whole reason for having em' big and life size, standing there looking up..even adults are put back in the mindset of being a kid again. :)

I'm working on some ideas..I kind of like a dark blue with black and yellow markings?  Not sure how realistic it would look though.  I have to keep the plates simple since my friend will be painting those due to the height, so they will likely be brown/black.

Some pics showing what I've been up to recently. Our entire haunt was set up on another location ( been working on it off and on all year) but we lost the location at the start of the month. So I have scrambling to bring my 2016 plan to fruition , moving the haunt here to the dinosaur park.

I was just wondering why we hadn't heard from you in a bit! I guess in late summer/autumn you must get a little distracted from dinosaurs...
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

Just a bit..this year moreso than others unfortunately. Ah those best laid plans of mice and men.

The haunt does work wonders for our budget, helping us out over the fall and winter months til warm weather brings people out again.

Tail's up!

Impressive! Hey your buddy's name wouldn't be Thag by any chance? If so he might want to be careful back there. ;)

WoW!  That is one GIHUGANTIC Stegosaurus!  the ones in museums are usually of the smallish variety, this one must be based on the biggest partial specimens found!

When you put the plates on its back its gonna be a show-stopper!! Bright colors - may I suggest that the Walking With Dinosaurs Stegosaurus might be a good model to suggest a color scheme?

Awesome!

I read a max size of 30' so that's what I went for. Our last ( for awhile at any rate) really huge dinosaur.  ^-^

That could be a good pattern and color. I was almost convinced to maybe do a black and white pattern, something high contrast?

Sorry for not being around guys, I'm dead here. I only want to go to sleep but I still have bills to pay and deals to check on..ugh

I can't wait to see this Stegosaur finished - it's going to be a masterpiece.

Nice interview, Chris! That was with Chris DiPiazza, right?

So did you have good turn outs for your Halloween attractions?

Sorry for not doing a better job at keeping up w/your work (which I really like). Last time I checked this thread, you guys were talking about Deinonychus. Is that it in the following pic?

Yes it was. He did one before a few years ago so it was sort of an update..lol

The haunted house/ Funhouse was a little low but with the move and lack of being able to advertise it I think it made sense. The Trick or Treat with the Dinosaurs now well, it did around 3200 guests. We made around 500 in donations but we spent about the same on candy..lol so it sort of equaled out.  It unfortunately aggravate a few neighbors by having traffic backed up for 2 miles in either direction for a couple hours. That led to a vist from the planning and zoning inspector and we have been scrambling to get paperwork together and file for a special use permit.  So good and bad.

No problem bud. That is the Deinonychus. I think the last one we completed was the Dimetrodon? We are working on the Stegosaurus but having some trouble with finding materials and weather.
