I think the kaiyodo dinotales parasaurolophus is really accurate too.  Greg Paul's book is a good investment when it comes to skeletals.

Himmapaan

The GSP Field Guide doesn't have views from the back and above though, if those are what you're particularly after. But the book is well worth getting in any case. BUY IT.  ;D

Also, the best Parasaurolophus figure (apart from the Kaiyodo Dinotales)? Why, the Battat, of course.  :))

Anyone want to name another brand that's hard to find.. lol

Thought TQ meant it had them. Which ones does it have ? Do you know ?

The book has been on my wishlist since it's release..I have pages of stuff on amazon, but it seems I definitely need it.  I usually use Hartman's skeletals but he rarely does different angles unfortunately.

I like your kentro, Blade  ^-^. Whose kind of elephantid is he?
[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?

Looking good!  Can't wait to see the color schemes you use for all of these.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Jetoar,  the elephant is a modern one..just ZOMBIFIED ! lol It will have an undead appearance to it for use in our haunted attraction in the coming year.

Color ? Oh man..you mean I still have to PAINT these !? lol ;D

I've thought over the Struthio a bit  and the upcoming Allosaurus..but not really much for the Kentro. I'm thinking it's a female so I'll to look at some art ..maybe keep it a little subdued ? Moreso than in a male version I guess.

I do like these  though :

Parasaurolophus is starting out good!

Blade-of-the-Moon

Thanks, I received the eyes for it today. and did get the crest coated, should be done in a couple more days with the head at least.

Para looks awesome. Two questions:

1. Will you add "webbing" between the crest and neck, or leave it skinless?
2. Do you think the basic methods you use for making these models would work on something of a smaller scale, such as 1:40? (obviously the materials and tools would be slightly different).

Thank you :)

The skin webbing I think I'm leaving out. The reasons are many , but first off it has a very 90's feel and I wanted to be as accurate as possible. Most seem to have ditched this concept by now so it's a bit outdated. It even shows up in some really retro art of Paras. Usually in the same ones that show them as animals mostly living in the water.  There is also a structural issue. A large skin flap would put added pressure on the head when strong winds blow, I like to eliminate as many chances of stress as possible.

Honestly it wouldn't be. My smallest piece using this method was the Rhamphorynchus. At around 2' or so and I had issue making his wings and arms due to the thin-ness of them. I think something with a head around a foot in size is my limit.  I have sculpted in clay and such before for smaller pieces like baby dinos, claws, teeth, even a few dragons. Doing 1/40 scale dinos though there are so many others doing it already and such an excellent job like Malcolm with his pieces I'd never top that.

No problem. :)

I'm in need of assistance again.  I need some images or really good descriptions of the various Kentrosaurus plates and spines. I'm mostly looking for the 8th and 9th " plate " as they seem to turning toward spines there at the hips but not quite seeing as the base still looks more like a plate than a spine.   Any fossil/skeleton shots from above would be most helpful and those detailing the various plates and spines themselves so I can gauge about how thick they need to be..then I can figure out out what kind of support will work best for them.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Well I sort of sorted it out myself..I think.

Anyway..here is the Para head done minus paint :
