Quote from: Blade-of-the-Moon on December 21, 2024, 03:20:51 AMHow long has it been since the little Compy like dinos that leaped overhead worked?

They removed the conveyor system with the cutout compies years ago. I think they installed a screen with fully animated compies on it back in 2015 or 17.

I saw it in an old video and thought it was a neat effect.

The old effect is pretty clever. Weirdly, this ride and its sister in Disneyland (Indiana Jones) had a small handful of effects that didn't last more than a couple years.
Also, somewhat annoyingly it's really hard to get a lick of useable footage from the pre-2000 version of the ride since the ride track was much darker and handheld cameras with low light capture were still in their infancy.

I recall seeing a video where the IJ ride had this falling rubble effect that was abandoned. I think also the eye beam from the statue? That was featured in promo videos for the ride and concepts.   I love the history of the parks and the effects despite never having had the chance to visit them.

Yep! The falling rubble was an illusion created by dropping ice chunks! Unfortunately water and repeated use mechanisms don't get along well and the trapdoor that allowed the ice to fall rusted into disuse pretty quickly, so the effect was turned off. Another one of the effects is how there were three carved doors in the beginning of the ride and early effects had the wall rotate with a lighting effect made it appear as if the riders were heading into one of three passages. Eventually the cable that moved the wall actually snapped, so it was replaced with mirrors and clever projection mapping. I think the eye beams are still in there though. I recall seeing them back in 2017 if I'm not mistaken.

I think I recall reading about that? It's terrible when they can't fix something or find a new way to make it work..though I'm guilty of putting "bandaids" on things myself til I can fix them.  As I recall Everest and the Yeti is one of the biggest examples, that thing will probably never be fixed .
