Getting worried, I have read many reviews from the "classic" movie critics, and they are very negative.

Our critic in our local rag gave it only 2 out of 5 stars and called it a mess. I rarely listen to critics most of the movies they pan I love and the stuff they love I can't stand, I'm looking at you "Down and out in Beverly Hills" what a piece of you know what and the critics loved it.

Glad to read Star loved it, that gives me hope.

Was that the Ottawa Citizen or the Sun? I cancelled my subscription to the former after they changed their format and gutted the weekend funnies.

That is in today's Sun. We used to get the Citizen but cancelled it when it became a one sided Liberal mouthpiece.

I wouldn't give my words to much credit,  when it comes down to it I'm another rabid awesomebro fan ;)

People honestly shouldn't listen to critics..it always pays to get out and try something for yourself. :)

In this case, it costs to go out and try something for yourself. ;)

And while I haven't had the chance yet, I'm seeing two different reactions in the people that I know--professional paleontologists overall seem to be kind of "Meh" on the story, even if they enjoyed the ride (mostly because the dino designs appear to more retro than the original); everyone else seems to enjoy it, but acknowledge it's no original JP.

My big hold up in seeing it (because of course I will)--our local theatre is showing almost entirely 3D, with one very inconvenient 2D showing. I won't pay the premium for a film that was post-production 3D'd.

I go to these movies to see movie dinosaurs and to be entertained so I will probably love it, I read the first book and I own the trilogy on DVD with all the behind scenes stuff and I could never get enough. My daughter just phoned me and she saw it and liked it too.

Problem is probably everybody here who wants to see it will see it before me because I am down with a sinus infection and other than someone talking during a movie the next worst thing would be someone coughing all the way through and I don't want to be that guy.

I completely agree. Critics watch movies and play video games all the time. They are overly exposed to themes and genres and are desensitized by the process. From my personal experience, I don't watch too many films per year. I find movies that are supposedly cliched to be kind of exciting. I enjoyed Jupiter Ascending but I don't expect most people to like it...Also, I tend to value style and presentation a lot more than substance and that makes my views a bit unpopular/peculiar.

I never see watching movies as being a waste of money either. The average ticket is $8-12. The movie may cost $200 million to make. In the span of an hour and a half I am literally consuming thousands of hours of collective man power and vision as well as perhaps $200 million worth of production values. I think that is pretty cool when you really think about it.

...or maybe the reviewers don't really like Chris Pratt (and are used to seeing him as Andy from Parks and Recreation). That might influence the overall score, I suppose.

I watched Jurassic World with some friends tonight (in 2D)!  It was a good experience.  As someone who's really interested in prehistoric animals I was both a bit disappointed by the inaccuracies in some of the animals in the film, but also very happy to watch an interesting story which involved them.  I enjoyed Jurassic World and recommend it! :)

I agree with this. I was also happy there is a line in the movie that satisfied my problem with JP/JW Dino inaccuracies.

As with many of you, I headed out and saw JW.  I will not say here if it was good or not, just remember, with this movie you will see what you expect to see.  If you are looking for great character development and amazing plot, you will be dissappointed, if you are looking for action and homage to the orginal, then you will enjoy it.

Yeah, I'm also satisfied by that part. :)

Appalachiosaurus

I think the reason this movie is getting such a negative backlash by some people is because they walk into the theater thinking they are going to see something as good as the original Jurassic Park. That was and never will be the case. I walked in there this morning expecting it to be on par with JP/// and maybe even the worst movie of the franchise. So, of course, I was absolutely blown away. I loved it! Really, if any of you guys are taking second guesses about seeing this movie, just go in there and watch it yourself!

DinoLord

I agree completely. It was a good movie on its own and definitely on par with or maybe even better than the two other sequels (which I both enjoy greatly). But we're never going to be able to experience the magic or wonder of seeing the Brachiosaurus or T. rex killing the raptors for the first time again - the first movie can never be matched, and that's okay.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I'm not seeing much in the way of negativity? At least among fans most consider it an 8-9 out of 10.  It is making quite a bit of money.

DinoLord

There are a few disappointed fans and critics out there, but the overall reception is definitely positive. The opening weekend is already the second largest in history and depending on today's figures might beat out Avengers for the record.

Shadowknight1

Got back from JW a few hours ago, thoroughly enjoyed it.  Definitely better than The Lost World or Jurassic Park III.  I will say there should've been more animatronics than CGI, but still pretty good.
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

Cant wacth this only once, twice !!

DinoLord

Looks like JW has taken the record for largest opening weekend.

Paleogene Pals

I'm glad that JW had such a huge opening weekend. It can only help fuel the dino fire! I heard that the movie does explain the inaccuracies in a way that satisfies me. I haven't seen it yet, but it is Jurassic Park so yes I will soon.
