I updated the thread title. Do we know if 'Jurassic World' is a subtitle, or a full title?

Full title.

I hate to sound nitpicky, but Jurassic World sounds like a spin off of some sort, not something from the main series. They should have just called it Jurassic Park IV.

Oh well, just a personal peeve. I'll wait until I see the film until I judge it.

I agree, but I think we just need to get used to the name. "Jurassic Park" is ironed in our minds, so dropping the "Park" is a big change.

Yeah, I actually think 'Jurassic World' works well, it just takes a bit of getting used to. I never liked "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" as a title, and "Jurassic Park 3" is just a dull title. So I welcome the new name! If you think about it, "Jurassic Park" is a weird name anyway, shouldn't it have been "Jurassic Zoo"?

Oh yeah, and please let the producers contact me if they really are going down the marine reptiles route! ;)

Well yes and no....when I saw the movie one of the things that hit me is very few of the animals are actually from the Jurassic.....if you made a short list......what besides the Brachiosaurus from the first movie was actually from the Jurassic? I am sure there are a few but still, the majority of the dinosaurs were Cretaceous, or Triassic. ( I believe the dilos would be Triassic if memory serves.) You were given raptors, tyrannosaurus rex, triceratops, etc. Perhaps.....Mesozoic world or some such would be more appropriate.
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen

The only Triassic dinosaur in the book was the Procompsognathus I believe, which was messed up in "The Lost World" and given the name Compsognathus (which is a Jurassic dinosaur). Dilophosaurus was an early Jurassic dinosaur. You're right that most of the dinosaurs in both the books and films were Cretaceous genera. I can't say I blame the movie producers on that as they just carried the name over from the book and you have to admit "Jurassic Park" has a certain ring to it which I'm sure is what led to that title to begin with.

I know this doesn't really relate to Jurassic World/JPIV, but...

That's an interesting question. The JP novel had the isla nublar island as much more of an "amusement park" instead of a "zoo" - think about a river rafting ride, roller coasters that were under construction, and hang gliding if I remember correctly. It was more like an amusement park with living dinosaurs in it rather than an actual zoo. Unfortunately, the JP movie didn't really focus on any of the other attractions on isla nublar other than the main dinosaur tour.

Zoos are oftentimes non-profit as well, and zoos certainly don't have investors like what were featured in both the first JP novel and movie. But at the same time, such an expensive operation such as jurassic park would have needed all the monetary help it could get in order to be established.

I guess it would be like trying to call "sea world" an aquarium - they do have the occasional tropical fish/ marine mammal tank, but most of the effort appears to be put into the rides and attractions other than the live animals on display.

Sorry for the almost-severe derailment, but I can never pass up on talking about fictional hypothetical scenarios regarding JP  ;D

I agree, Jurassic Park does sound cool. Maybe they picked Jurassic because it was the "golden age" of archosaurs? Maybe we'll never know why Michael Crichton picked Jurassic instead of Triassic or Cretaceous.

Gwangi

Well "Triassic Park" would have been a poor choice given the limited dinosaur diversity of that time and the lack of many Triassic species in the books/movies. "Cretaceous Park" would have been appropriate but I doubt many people can even pronounce it. "Mesozoic Park" really would have been the best choice but it just does not have that same ring to it that "Jurassic Park" does.

Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus

I think the title was chosen very well, given all of the circumstances (which Gwangi elaborated on) and I am so excited for this movie it's not even funny.

I think Jurassic World works because if you think about it each movie has had less and less of an actual park in it. TLW had one in San Diego but JPIII was just Island Full Of Dinosaurs: The Movie.

Though it seems this one is going back to a Park setting...or least a Sea World-like one maybe.  :?

Blade-of-the-Moon

I recognize the name but I can't recall any memorable roles she was in.

I first saw her in "The Village" but she was also in "Lady in the Water", "Terminator: Salvation" and 50/50. She is a good enough actress but I can't take her being cast in "Jurassic World" as a good sign given some of her previous roles.

Edit: She is also Ron Howard's daughter.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Now I saw The Village and Lady in the Water..but it's been awhile and just can't place her. Might have to check them out again.

She was SO good in The Help. I loved hating her character! It's one of those realistic villains that I couldn't help but love just how horrible she was. Of course, I don't love those kind of people in real life, but it makes for very juicy filmmaking.
