Thanks for the pics tyrantqueen!  Hopefully, one day I'll have a better camera and can do any future reviews justice on my own.
No problem. I thought sus was writing the review though. Did he just post it for you?

suspsy

Yes, that's correct. Thank you again for the photos. :)

Great stuff!

Somebody needs to review the female Oviraptor. I think that's the only Carnegie figure left!

Is an intended gender for the two Carnegie Oviraptor versions officially confirmed?  I thought that the original version was just an extremely under-feathered version which is why it was eventually replaced by the more feathered second version.  The original Carnegie Oviraptor was actually the first feathered dinosaur by Carnegie.  It was released even before the Microraptor, Dilong, Beipiaosaurus and Caudipteryx.

Like female birds today, female oviraptorosaurs would've very much benefited from keeping their wing feathers for things like thermoregulation, balance, communication and brooding.  Similarly, there are very colourful female birds, like the saddle-billed stork.  Female cassowaries are actually more brightly coloured than males!

I distinctly recall the second Oviraptor being billed as a male prior to its release. Perhaps it was here. Many collectors refer to it as such:

In any case, I think the under-feathered version is the only original Carnegie toy yet to be reviewed. I'd have done it myself a long time ago if I owned it.

I believe the male/female designation has only been implied by collectors and not Safari. The more recent Oviraptor is just a remake of the older, less accurate model.

So umm using all the back and forth logic here, where would that land the nesting safari figure of Oviraptor heavily influenced by Louis Rey's work...quite gaudy , colorful and clearly brooding her its young?
Authors with varying competence have suggested dinosaurs disappeared because of meteorites...God's will, raids by little green hunters in flying saucers, lack of standing room in Noah's Ark, and palaeoweltschmerz—Glenn Jepsen

I think it works pretty well as a female counterpart to the newer figure, although it would have been better if had feathered forearms. By the way, I will be getting the "female" soon, so if a review is desired for this figure, I can offer my services.

You know TQ if you decide you want to do it up, go ahead. I will even offer to give you a set of pictures of my model to use if you do it....got your back

That model is apart of the Dino Discoveries collection not apart of the Carnegie Collection so it's best regarded as separate from the other two. I kind of always thought of it as a male though due to all the coloration. There are a lot of bird species where both parents care for the offspring and even some where only the males do.

I can even go with that logic but it means changing big Mama from ...well Big Daddy would be its new name

Oh cool, thanks for that. It hit on the points I was trying to make but also brought up a lot of other interesting questions and information. A good read.

Correct, but you guys don't mind waiting, right? :) If someone else writes the review in the meantime, I don't mind.
