Review #96. One of my favorites, and a true classic.

It is really nice. I always loved the realistic eyes on the Tyco models.

Sorry to bump your review off the top of the page so soon - we must've been writing at the same time - but I just posted a blog entry summarising the recent activity on the Youtube channel: http://dinotoyblog.com/2016/10/21/update-on-dinosaur-toy-blogs-youtube-channel/

That's quite alright. Actually, I've been toying around with the idea of doing video reviews for the Youtube channel. Would you be interested? I know I still need to do the collection video.  :-\

Makes you wonder how that is supposed to work. Sure, the Hybrids are all cooked up in the lab, but what about the armored ones? Did Indominus just build that in a cave from scraps?
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

I have spent enough money on the JW line, not another cent will I spend.  Hasbro put very little thought or energy into the hybrid line, it is not worth my money or space.

As I said in my comment on the review, I think the Hybrids line was the final straw that caused Hasbro to lose the license. Indeed, I'm still amazed that they seriously thought it was a good idea given that Chaos Effect tanked back in the day. And Chaos Effect had much cooler-looking toys.

I agree.  The Chaos Effect line were strange, but they at least they were original and had some style.

It certainly helped that CE included a number of all-new figures as opposed to mere retools. It doesn't take much creativity to slap on extra spikes or bigger horns, but it does to blend the features of Ankylosaurus and Pteranodon into a fictional monster that actually looks cool and fun to play with, albeit silly.

Well, those were still Kenner figures.

To be fair, many of the Hybrid figures are based on Jurassic World: The Game, representing Level 40 forms in most cases. How accurate they are to the source however varies. Of course that is no excuse for them being bad figures, but that was to be expected with them being retools of already bad figures.

The game actually has some very interesting designs in it, Hasbro just wasn't willing to actually invest in production value.

I think it's a pity that they went for the Spinosaurus repaint ( the worst of the bunch ) instead of a Spinoraptor, as originally announced.

To me Spinoraptor looks like a spinosaurid that could actually exist! Nice!

There are more awe-inspiring things than a rearing sauropod!
A rearing sauropod with a disco ball and a cowboy hat!

After that great review, (and let's face it, that's a hard review to follow), maybe we should take the week off and just enjoy the soft, warm glow from the Holy Grail of prehistoric figures, the Battat Diplodocus.
