There is...a proper video review of "Gwangi" incoming!! ;D Unfortunately I have a JP Brachiosaurus-sized cold so I'm probably even less comprehensible than usual, and the internet here is one small step up from dial-up standards, so it'll go on sometime through the night. All I'll say is, if anyone does watch it, good luck and please have mercy..! ^-^

I really enjoyed it, its nice to have people willing to review dinosaurs from other companies aside from the usual Papo/Safari youtubers

Minmiminime

Thanks, S @Syndicate Bias 😊 I just thought this is such a unique and well-crafted model it deserved a thorough look at! I wonder what they'll do next? I'm guessing they're more interested in film references than scientific accuracy, but it'll be interesting to see how they develop!

Thanks for the review Minmiminime! I think I'm convinced to purchase this one too  8) Glad I'n not the only one that found the pose a bit...odd. It reminds my of the "skating" Rex that Raider did of Sue. Actually the pose looks almost exactly like the Favorite desktop model of the Allosaurus by M. Trcic

Chris

P.S. I liked your "broad northern accent"  :)

avatar_Dobber @Dobber I've never seen those two figures, they are glorious 🤯😻 The pose of Gwangi certainly is very similar to the Trcic figure, but I suppose the options for posing bipedal dinosaurs are pretty limited! It's a pity it looks a bit awkward and unnatural, but it's easy enough to overlook. Overall, it's definitely the best quality figure I've got in my collection! I'm delighted that you enjoyed the review (and my Geordie accent😉). Thank you!

I agree the pose is easily overlooked, but it does look....odd. To me it looks like they are ice skating! Lol. Probably because the rear leg is at such an extreme extension. Personally, I don't think such large bipedal animals should do that....even while running, but I'm no expert.

Thank you! It's a good analogy, but birds shifted to the use of their lower leg and almost static thighs following the loss of the tail...or so they think 😉 I'll go with it, though! 😁 Makes it seem so much less odd!!

Is Aliexpress a good place to buy from? I'd like to pick up one of those Allosaurus figures.

Yea it's good man. I ordered mine through there and it had a verification process so if the product doesn't arrive by a certain date you can file it through them.

avatar_Dobber @Dobber I got mine through AliExpress too. I was lucky, it arrived in two weeks!

So I ordered my Allosaurus off of Aliexpress a few days ago and went to check on the status of my order. When I ordered I'm pretty sure it was showing available and "Gwangi". Apparently W-Dragon has a variant repaint coming out in March and THAT is now what is showing as my order. While I'm bummed that my Allosaurus will now take a few months extra to ship and I don't like having it as a Preorder, I DO really like the new repaint. Called Tiger Grain  8) I actually prefer it, so I guess it works out.

Do you prefer this one or want the "Gwangi"?

Chris

I prefer This one so I'm a bit Grundy atm for it. The gwangi one is already shipped so I can't cancel it anymore. It's fine I'll just order the other one in March

Minmiminime

That is a nice repaint! ^-^ But it is a little annoying as this is a more pleasing colour scheme than the original, and the impression was given that this would be a limited edition figure, not a limited edition paint run!! ::) I'll stick with the one I have, as I don't like doubling-up on figures. Still, I wish I'd waited, now..!

Yeah that stinks for those of you that got the "Gwangi" paint variant because you like the sculpt but we're indifferent to the paint only to find out after the fact that a better color scheme was coming out. Looks like I just missed getting the Gwangi. Like I said, don't like waiting but I prefer this color to the Gwangi so I'm content with the wait.

Yeah, this one looks a lot nicer!! I'll certainly be more cautious in future, lol! ;D Still, it's a fab figure either way so I'm happy to own it. I've got a similar situation with my Rebor Fallen Queen, but at least I held out on the Papo Acrocanthosaurus  :)
