And a Trilobite named Han solo etc. etc.

What about embarrassing names like Scelidosaurus, where the scientist used the wrong word and it stuck? Are there any others like that?

Yes, Mamenchisaurus.  And there's names which as far as I'm aware just have a misspelling that doesn't change the meaning, e.g. Tsaagan.

I like the names Zuul and Thanos, but I hope there isn't a huge trend in paleontology of naming things after characters in genre fiction. I just don't think it'll be that cool or novel after the ten thousandth time.
I'm fine with Zuul, but one is enough for me. With Thanos is already too many, but I know there will be more.

Not a dinosaur, but let us not forget the dicynodont named Bulbasaurus phylloxyron (phylloxyron="razor leaf").

Also Aerodactylus. That are two prehistoric animals too much named after Pokemon.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

It is skorpiovenator it seems a name of carnivorous theropod somewhat weird, "hunter of scorpions" considering that it was a theropod of considerable size (6 meters in length) is illogical that they give name to that immense theropod that denomination, only because its rest they found themselves in a deposit where there were many scorpions. I would stick more to a small theropod as a "scorpion hunter", and this is not the case of the skorpiovenator.

Diabloceratops "devil with horns" it seems illogical to me that a peaceful herbivore for having that defensive helmet has that name, would strike more a theropod or carnivorous prehistoric reptile and I say this because of its threatening tone, a herbivore does not name it from my point of view .

I remember Bulbasaurus. Didn't notice the Aerodactylus though.

I agree with Skorpiovenator, it is a silly name for a large carnivore.
I will defend Diabloceratops however for two reasons. Firsly Diabloceratops means "devil horn face" in reference to its appearance not behaviour, which is how Ceratopsians are normally named. Secondly, you are perpetuating the myth that all herbivores a peaceful placid creatures. Many herbivores are vastly more aggressive than some carnivores. There is no reason to think that Ceratopsids were placid.

I don't vote. Choosing is a sin, so I always just write in the Lord's name!

I got the Collecta Estemmenosuchus today, and I reflected on how Estemmenosuchus looks more like Zuul from the Ghostbusters than Zuul the dinosaur does.

Am I the only one that likes Thanos Simmonati's name?

Maybe would be more popular if it was given to an animal strong arms instead.

Not a Dinosaur, but just saw this:

In all fairness, half of these only sound silly to English speakers. All the Fukuis are perfectly legitimate if your first language is Japanese. I do, however, get a good laugh out of the ones whose names, translated from the Latin/Greek, actually mean or evoke something silly (e.g. Irritator, Rhinorex...). The one that always gets to me is Murusraptor, which translates to 'wall thief'. I just get this mental image of it casually carrying off an entire wall, and it cracks me up to an unnecessary degree... ;D
