I was actually wondering about the photo issue here. I was wondering if maybe we should use links to our photos instead of posting the photos themselves? Maybe not entirely, but if we could do this at least a little bit, it could help out a lot in the end.
Actually yes, that is what we are being encouraged to do. Rather than using this site as a host, to find our own hosts and use links to prevent strain on the server. I have already begun converting my posts to links instead.

Oh I'm sorry, I thought by 'host' he meant the original site containing the raw URL, which in my case, for all my photos, would be both photobucket and flickr. All of the photos I post here are from those 2 sites, so I thought I wasn't technically 'hosting' them here - if that makes sense.

Then you are doing it right. I have not. What he seems to want to avoid is uploading the pictures as attachments rather than using html links to a hosting site. I had been using attachments, which loads the server down with stuff.

Amargasaurus is right, I'm just trying to cut down on image attachments specificaly because they are stored directly on the dinotoyblog.com server. However, don't feel the need to remove existing attachments, my introduction of a limit is just a precaution to stop the server being overloaded somewhere down the line, possibly even years from now - there is no real problem.

As for the posting limitation - there isn't one. We had one temporarily but it was lifted, and it was due to moderating issue rather than a space saving issue. C:-)  Don't worry about saving space by limiting posts or threads - the threads and posts themselves are teenyweeny. There are no limits on number of threads either  :)

Libraraptor

Does anyone know where cordylus is? He was top poster in V.1 with 8800 (!) posts. Or is he still around with a different name?

It has already been several months since we all migrated to V2. :o I hope everyone has settled in by now, even those who were sceptical of the move in the first place.  It feels odd to go back to the archive, although we still have a few stragglers ;)

I know several members access the forum through mobile devices, so I still intend to install a mobile-friendly forum template for you technophiles.  :D

Something odd just happened when I clicked on the Starlux collection thread from home page.  It took me to the thread, but there was a big blue banner at the top of the page that was full of computer talk, something like: "moderator-tag// Libraraptor-edit/admin: collections/edit-move...".  This was about 3 or 4 lines long and basically just repeated things like that.   I went back to home and it was gone, then I returned to the Starlux thread via the same route and it was gone.

Weird huh? ???

That was me! I installed a modification that went wrong, then quickly scrambled to uninstall it  :o
Sorry for the inconvenience  :)

There hasn't been one at all on v2, ever, that I recall. So now you have to get moderators to remove posts.

They must be really trying to take control, You can't even delete your own membership anymore.
Anyway, MODERATOR, MODERATOR, please delete my first 2 Diorama posts and my 2 posts in 'Pets', I could not delete the whole post just the pics. The pics i loaded were joint to my Flicka account which i didn't want. I must figure out another way to post pics.

DinoToyForum

Hi Ajax, as requested, I've deleted your diorama and pets posts.  C:-)

Everyone around here knows I'm "mad with power".  >:D

Really, the lack of a delete button just helps to stop members being too trigger happy with posting and deleting - which helps to keep the forum more stable, and makes moderating easier. :) And members can still delete the content of a post if they wish.

Unrelated, I've noticed that posts and discussions about commercially available model kits tend to go into the Dinosaur Art section. I wonder if it would be appropriate to have a dedicated model kits section?

Oh yeah, the reason there isn't an option for members to delete their own account is also related to stability/moderating. Basically it is to stop anyone leaving suddenly but who then decides to come back shortly thereafter with a new account. It happened on V1 and it makes the forum messy. It also gives me the opportunity to discuss and rectify any issues that may have lead to that member wanting to leave in the first place. Of course, if anyone does want to leave, I don't stand in their way.

Just wondered if anyone missed this, I'd be interested if anyone has any feelings one way or the other :) Although I can't imagine anyone being against it.

I think a separate Model Kits section isn't a bad idea.  :)

Gasp, I've committed myself to an opinion!  :o :))

I think it also makes sense in case anyone were to post something horrible--may well force people to think before they act (instead of being able to delete incriminating evidence, etc).

I have tried several times to insert pictures into my replies, but when I press the button, nothing happens. Do I have to copy something first, or do I have to have it saved in a file? Please reply.
