Ebay debited my account for item not received, even though I provided tracking??

Earlier this year someone in Chile bought a dinosaur from me on eBay. The item shipped with a tracking number. It entered Chile and was redirected to Brazil where it kicked around for a while, "lost", before coming back to me about 2 months later. The seller wanted me to try shipping again, but to a different address in Chile. I did so, and provided a new tracking number. At that time, the buyer also opened a case against me. I provided the tracking number in the case details, and the case was eventually marked closed with no action taken. The last tracking update was on July 31, showing the item entered Chile, but nothing further. I asked the buyer if they received the item but they never replied. Today I get a message from eBay/paypal showing that they credited the buyer the full amount, leaving me with a negative account balance! I am disputing the charge, but wondering if anyone else has experience with this and what else I can do. The tracking still does not show anything beyond the item entering Chile on July 31.

While I never sell anything but my experience with tracking suggests that you should check out Chile's post's tracking.

When I'm waiting for a package from abroad the original tracking site usually can't follow what happens with the package after it arrives in Hungary. Then I just have to check the Hungarian post's tracking site for updates.

I'm not 100% sure but maybe this site will be what you're looking for: https://track24.net/service/clpost/tracking/

Ebay is awful. I've lost so much money to eBay, both as a seller and as a buyer.

I tracked using the Chile Post website and received this information:

DESPACHADO A OFICINA DE CORREOSCHILE     01/08/2019 3:38       CEN CENTRO TECNOLOGICO POSTAL

I contacted the buyer again. He contacted his postal service and they are telling him the item was stolen. It is very frustrating since I had already shipped the item twice. It was an original Bullyland Megatherium in near mint condition. I hated to part with it in the first place.

That's frustrating. I've had enough negative experiences shipping internationally that if I resume selling on eBay I may limit it to US buyers.

If the tracking site wasn't really helpful I would contact the post too (just in case that you got the same answer or not).

If the item was really stolen I would send a copy of the answer from the Chile post to ebay because it's not your fault it got lost.

Regarding the financial site of the case I would check out what the Seller Protection means and ask if that doesn't make you wiser what you should do.

And I can't think anything more than good luck!

"stolen"

Yeah sure, typical response from buyers trying to save a buck or two on something that seemed like a good opportunity.

I have alot of experience with shipping internationally and selling on Ebay. I'm gonna be honest with you being a seller on Ebay is almost always a lose situation when dealing with problematic buyers. Most often times Ebay will always put buyers before sellers. Assuming he used Paypal try contacting them first after you make contact with Chile's PO.

Things can get very messy with international shipping, I'm sorry about your experience recently but most likely the outcome will be negative due to Ebay's favouritism to buyers over their sellers.

It's not really that great for buyers, either. I've had some bad experiences in both roles.

1. if the estimated delivery date of the item has lapsed (favors the buyer)
2. and the buyer sends you a message complaining about the late shipment within 30 days from the supposed delivery date
3. and you weren't able to reply within 3 days OR replied but did not do any of these 3 things: provide an update on the item's shipment*, offer a replacement, or offer a refund
4. and the buyer sends a complaint to ebay and opens a case with paypal

The ending is usually a charge on the seller in favor of the buyer.

I'm basing this only off your original post Seijun, but there's a possibility the person/s handling the case took the first shipment problem against you and so favored the buyer. The first problematic shipment likely was already marked as a "transaction defect" in your seller dashboard and made their decision to just refund the buyer and charge you a lot easier.

By all means, please continue with your dispute especially since the buyer is aware that the item was "stolen".  It would help you immensely if you also "remind" ebay that you were in constant communication with the buyer.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience, and this wall of text.  I'm not affiliated with them, nor am I defending them.  I just want members to be aware how the system works.

ugh... stolen items while in transit... brings back a lot of bad memories...
