Quote from: PumperKrickel on February 17, 2020, 11:54:53 PMAlright, let´s have a look at the final results, shall we? The top ten prehistoric animal toys of 2018 are:

1. Collecta Iguanodon 19 votes
2. Safari Ankylosaurus 18 votes
3. Eofauna Paleoxodon 17 votes
3. Safari Triceratops 17 votes
5. Safari American Mastodon 16 votes
6. Safari Malawisaurus 15 votes
7. Papo Therizinosaurus 13 votes
8. Papo Acrocanthosaurus repaint 12 votes
8. Collecta Estemmenosuchus 12 votes
10. Schleich Psittacosaurus 10 votes
10. Papo Quetz 10 votes

Some noteworthy observations:
Only the second first place for Collecta since the 2014 Deluxe Carcharodontosaurus.
Unsurprisingly, Safari is the company with most figures placed in our top tens overall. 19 figures over the span of 6 years. With their dominant streak from 2015 to 2017, Safari is also the company with most wins.
The second Schleich figure to ever make it into one of our top tens, after the 2015 Kentrosaurus.
After their Steppe Mammoth made it to 7th place in 2017, Eofauna continues to impress.

So, are you surprised with these results? How did your favourites do? Please feel free to discuss.  :)

I looked at this poll again as I was curious about how Beasts of the Mesozoic did and I'm surprised none made it into the top 10.  I don't see how numbers 7 to 10 in the above quote can be considered better than the BotM figures.  In any case I think this poll is from an earlier period when Papo was more popular and Safari had more releases.  Eofauna hadn't started doing dinosaurs yet too, and PNSO wasn't producing many high-quality models yet.  I'm hopeful BotM will make it into the top 10 for more recent years.

One thing I've noticed is that there's only one option in the poll for Dromaeosaurus, when it had two versions.  The other BotM figures with two versions have their versions listed separately.  So I think the number of votes for the Dromaeosaurus combines votes for two different versions and they would probably have less votes if listed separately.

avatar_Sim @Sim Yeah I think it's quite a shame how none of the BotM figures ranked high in any of the polls they featured in. I think that's just a result of most members here preferring static figures over articulated ones, despite them being some of the best out there accuracy wise. To this day, aside from the Velociraptor and Deinonychus Safari Ltd produced, David's BotM figures still remain as some of the best dromaeosaurids put to the market so far.

Granted perhaps having so many (edit: similar/related) taxa released at once may have hindered their chances. Dromaeosaurus, Velociraptor, and Mononykus seemed to be the highest rated of these though.

I really hope that changes with the upcoming tyrannosaur series Wave 1 or after. David's fantastic work really deserves a spot (or more) in one of these polls.

avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin, I think you're probably right about people here tending to prefer non-articulated figures.  I guess I expected the BotM figures' high accuracy, excellent detail and paintjobs, and flexibility in posing to make them more popular.  Although I think what also has happened is what you identified: releasing a lot of similar species which I think leads to votes being spread out more and ultimately fewer votes than other figures.

I think the Wild Safari Microraptor, as well as the Deinonychus and 2017 Velociraptor, are all great and that the BotM dromaeosaurids are along with them the best dromaeosaurid figures available.  Well, except for the BotM Saurornitholestes and Zhenyuanlong which get a good rating from me but I can't rank them higher due to their inaccuracies.

It will be interesting to see where the BotM tyrannosauroids will rank, and the other future BotM/Cyberzoic figures too.  I wonder if repaints should be grouped with the original figure in these polls in order to prevent diluting the votes by sharing them between different paint variants?  I think this is what's been done in the top 10 polls of this forum which aren't the yearly ones.
