Certain figures are sticky. What is the cause?

There was a topic a while ago discussing this very same issue, it seems a problem that might affect any PVC figure.

plastics are weird like that, they will go bad for absolutely no reason at all. Wanna know whats really weird? a month ago I was cleaning my cabinet with my dragon plushes and the shiny fabric wings of one dragon had become sticky and gummy, like they literately feel like they have a thin layer of glue on them! and this is fabric were talking about here! that type of shiny holographic fabric used on TY bean bag animals and Webkinzs plush, and kids costumes. I have no idea how to fix it, its such a nice rare dragon that I had kept clean/mint in a closed cabinet (a white TY Beanie Buddy) and I dont want to throw it away.

sorry to hijack your thread about sticky dino figs, :-[ but I just hate that toys/collectables that one tries hard to keep in good condition can get ruined like that  >:(

We have two:

Maybe we should merge them and make them sticky. ( No pun intended )

I know this has happened to Paposaurs often enough, but for this to happen to Collectasaurs is news for me. Bad news. :-/

Actually you heard about it nearly a year ago:

My Papo Spinosaurus has the same problem. Never heard about it happening to Collecta figures though, that's a troubling bit of info...

Well at least I don't play with them anymore... Thanks!

This is a side effect of chemical release agents that most molding processes need.

Letting them sit in hot water with ample dish soap for a few hours, scrubbing gently, and repeating several times should do the trick.

it happened to only one of my CollectA, the old Iguanodon. i dont know about the others since i havent checked on them in years.

I have just checked my CollectAs and I have found one - the Paraceratherium is totally sticky. It's ugly and put in quarantine now, because I'm afraid the other figures could pick up the bug ;D. I think I want to get rid of this figure anyway, so it's luckily not a big problem for me. I haven't found any other sticky figure (sounds almost like a Rolling Stones album).

You don't like the  Paraceratherium?

I remember from the older thread that Takama had the same problem with the same figure.

Not really well done (CollectA could do better now) but it's quite nice in a way and incomprehensibly a rarely made species, but for my mammal collection it's simply too small (and now sticky, too). I have been giving away some other CollectAs as well. I like many of their figures at first sight, but they always loose attraction on me after a while. Of course there are some exceptions like last year's Dimorphodon or my garrattized 2015 deluxe Tyrannosaurus or the Sealife toob et cetera.

I would keep is just because it was a rare species to find in toy from.

And I make three of us.  I wonder what CollectA did differently with that figure to make it so prone to stickiness?

Now you just need to make this thread sticky. Because a sticky thread about sticky figures will prove sticky useful in the future, since that issue will come up again.

Shonisaurus

It happens to me only with three figures, the Augustinian deluxe Collecta, Collecta paraceratherium and spinosaurus (adult) Papo. I bought the first two figures and the Papo spinosaurus will be the third one I bought.  ???

Seeing that I am not the only person who has problems with paraceratherium, I believe that some figures are sticky due to fabrication errors, sun exposure or a humid climate. I have no other explanation. The other figures of other companies do not have these problems as I have observed in these three figures.  :(

Indeed, "Sticky Figures" should have been the title of the new merged thread!  ;D

Lambeoraptor

My guess it has to do with how they're made? Like the certain type of paint or something....? Or it could be the age? I mean when stuff gets older the plastic/ vinal will do weird things... it's my only guess!
