A few weeks ago, I posted a review of the Pteranodon from Yowie Group’s latest set of blind-bag figures, Ultimate Dinosaurs. In that review I mentioned that most of the figures were average to below average in execution but that there were a few standout figures. Well, despite being listed as “rare” on the Yowie rarity chart I managed to snag one of these standout figures, the Kosmoceratops.

There’s no point in over examining this thing but it is noteworthy in many respects. It has the forward hooking horns on the frill that the genus is famed for and even has close to the correct number, with 7 instead of 8 forward hooking horns and one on either side of the frill hooking off to the side. The brow horns are also correctly pointing outwards, and the nasal horn is present as well. Tiny epoccipitals can be seen along the frill edges too.

The figure has your typical ceratopsian body plan with rows of feature scales or osteoderms running along the sides. The forelimbs are slightly splayed and even the hands are angled correctly outwards. Four little digits can be seen on each limb. The figure measures about 2.5” (6.35 cm), giving it a scale of 1/72 when scaled down from the estimated length of 15’ (4.5 meters) for Kosmoceratops.

The figure has a striking and decently applied paintjob. The body is dark blue with vivid blue stripes running down its back. The frill is also vivid blue, and the horns and beak are bright red. Additional white markings decorate the face and frill. I like the bold colors and contrast and honestly, I kind of want to eat this thing. It looks like candy.

The Yowie Kosmoceratops is a cool little dude and one of the few toys worth seeking out in this line. I’ve managed to acquire 6 of these Yowie toys and this is my favorite so far, all the rest have been pretty mediocre but I’m sure I’ll end up reviewing at least some of them. When it comes to Yowies, at least there’s chocolate to eat if you don’t get a toy you like.
