If it were the old Papo I would be very excited for the Edmontosaurus & Yangchuanosaurus

Sim

Nice, thanks for sharing this avatar_Joliezac @Joliezac! :)  I'm interested in the plesiosaur, hopefully it gets identified to genus level.  Yangchuanosaurus could be interesting to me too, although it feels unnecessary since I have PNSO's Yangchuanosaurus magnus.  It looks like the wish for a Tyrannosaurus based on the real animal will come true!  I wish the Anhanguera was Rhamphorhynchus, there's such a need for a good figure of the latter...

crazy8wizard

Nervous for the Anhanguera since Papo has a spotty track record with pterosaurs. Then again the Tupuxuara was good so maybe it won't be too bad.

Sim

Also, I wish companies would try to avoid making species with sufficient recent good figures.  Edmontosaurus, Therizinosaurus and Tyrannosaurus are all like that, it's boring to see them get made over and over again!

crazy8wizard

Kinda weird how often I see people here say they wish companies didn't make so many commonly made figures and then wish specific companies would make specific figures of extremely commonly made taxa.

Any examples?  I can think of Dilophosaurus, but it lacks a good figure that incorporates recently gained knowledge of the animal.  Edmontosaurus had two excellent figures of it released this year, plus recent versions by Safari and CollectA which are also very good.  Tyrannosaurus had excellent versions from PNSO and Eofauna released last and this year respectively, and Therizinosaurus has recent versions by Safari and PNSO which are both excellent.  I forgot Yangchuanosaurus has two excellent versions from PNSO, released last year, too.  I find it disappointing to see a lineup which has so many species that have been done well recently more than once...

Oh gosh, I hadn't thought they might be repaints!  I'm almost certain the Therizinosaurus will be, I don't imagine Papo would make a new one.  This would also not make it a disappointing choice anymore for me.  I doubt the plesiosaur will be a repaint though, the current Papo plesiosaur is actually called Plesiosaurus and this new one isn't (so far), plus I can't imagine a repaint would improve that figure or be worthwhile.

GojiraGuy1954

There's also the possibility that they are just reissues. We saw that with the Archaeopteryx and Coelodonta in 2022
Shrek 4 is an underrated masterpiece

Cautiously optimistic about the Anhanguera. Surely it can't be worse than Schleich's version... right? :o

Sim

Is Schleich's Anhanguera considered bad?  Also, I would like to add that another reason I think the plesiosaur is most likely a new sculpt is that Papo made two much better marine reptiles recently (Mosasaurus and Kronosaurus) and I think they would like to have a plesiosauroid of that quality...  And even though Tyrannosaurus is a tiresome choice, Papo needed a better one than the terrible but very popular versions currently in their line.

avatar_Sim @Sim, remember when we have a discussion about Edmontosaurus toys and you told me to ask Papo for one? I laughed at that but I guess now you can laugh at me...

I'm 99% sure it will have a crest and it will be a regalis, though...

The main question about this roster is...which ones will be sculpted by Mr.Seo and which ones will be by the unnamed abomination maker?

Not great not terrible. I've seen it many times in person, and have been tempted to pick it up. But I just couldn't get over how Schleich-y it looks. The last Schleich figure I ever bought was the Psittacosaurus, which evidently doesn't have that cartoonish Schleich style.

For the Papo Anhanguera, I hope it will be in the same style as their Tupuxuara and Quetzalcoatlus ideally in a less ridiculous pose. Rather than be sculpted by the new sculptor.

Ivántirrophus

I'd love a WWD version Anhanguera

No, I won't laugh.  I can imagine the Edmontosaurus being an annectens without a crest, in case Papo has been observing how some people want that.  But I also wouldn't be surprised if it's a crested regalis, the only ones of this species are a bit on the small side if I'm remembering right.
As for your last point, imagine if the figure is a crestless Edmontosaurus annectens... but sculpted by Papo's "unnamed" sculptor!  Seriously though, I think the Edmontosaurus is the most likely to be from the unnamed sculptor, the others are all unlikely to be in my opinion.

bmathison1972

I don't have any Papo dinosaurs yet, maybe that could change with the Anhanguera depending on size and quality.

crazy8wizard

It's also worth noting that I don't think figure sculpting companies are as keen on comparing and contrasting the total number of figures each genus has from several other companies. Sure, it's fun to do on this forum but I really doubt Papo is doing that with other companies' figures.

Stegotyranno420

BANG BANG WE JUST GOT HIT WITH A YANG(-chuanosaurus)!
