QuoteLike, it's a generic Theropod but bigger, chonkier, shorter-armed, and with a unique skull.

This is indeed a self-contradictory statement. And yes, one can just as easily attempt to denigrate Triceratops by saying that's it's just a ceratopsid with three horns and a big frill. How many ceratopsids fit that description again?

And the argument about being understanding and forgiving works both ways. It's perfectly okay to not like how many T. rex toys have been made, but that's really not a justification for declaring them pointless or boring or generic. Whether intentional or not, it's insulting to the collectors who do enjoy these toys and to the sculptors who poured a heap of time and energy and effort into crafting them. The individual who crafted the Haolonggood T. rex would surely not appreciate such words.

By contrast, I for one haven't seen any T. rex fans gloating about a relative lack of Falcarius or Galeamopus or Edestus toys, or arguing that such toys are not wanted or needed.

I have decided for myself that I will mostly collect herbivores (with few exceptions such as the 3 modern style PNSO theropods with lips, spinosaurus because they are so unusual, and Yutyrannus because I love dinosaurus with feathers) and among herbivores I focus on sauropods and thyreophoreans. So the new Halonggood T. rex is not for me.

But I am happy for those people who enjoy this figure and were looking forward to its release. And I believe that Haolonggood selects their products based on their market potential. Possibly they even cross-subsidize rare species they make with revenue they get from releases such as this T. rex which will probably sell very well, given the quality and the very competitive price. The value for money ratio of this figure is very high.

Man, Cameron's teeth really let the whole figure down. The entire body is gorgeous, and beautifully painted, but you get to the teeth and they are blobby, and poorly painted.

Cameron almost requires custom work to be a perfect finished figure, even if you aren't adding lips, but are just re-shaping, painting the teeth.

HLG doesn't seem to need improvement anywhere, unless one must have lips, which I get.

avatar_Turkeysaurus @Turkeysaurus Is that top picture all the further the mouth closes?

If that top picture is all the farther that the mouth closes, then there is a large gap where you can see right through the mouth with the mouth closed, behind the teeth.

The size of the scales (more comparable to Wilson than Cameron)

There is opening between jaws even when it's mouth is closed. (We should investigate this further)

Slightly smaller and shrink wrapped compared Cameron. You can see the shape of the holes in skull if you look at closely.

Unfortunately yes.

Cameron has a slight flap of skin on the mandible, to cover that exact same gap.

I wonder if the HLG was switched, mid-development, from lipped, to lipless, and in the shuffle, this compensating flap of skin was overlooked.

Man the blue is just simply gorgeous and a really unique coloration for T-Rex. Problem is, I have 9 rexes already in my collection. 8 are JP-styled ones, with Rebor being my only Paleo-accurate one. But I have the Kiss repaint on preorder. Hopefully he shows some comparison pics because it just might sway me...

Seeing DinosDragons review I must say the teeth are very well done. And that is without using translucent plastic like Rebor and Nanmu do. That's very well done.

Might have to reconsider picking this one up.
But today, I'm just being father

Quote from: Sim on April 15, 2025, 09:07:44 AMWhat I notice in this discussion is that for some people who like Tyrannosaurus, it's not enough for there to be a massive amount of high-quality Tyrannosaurus figures, they have a problem if anyone expresses an unfavourable opinion about it.

Well, now that you're reduced to trolling for a fight, yeah.... contempt.

Moving on.

That's a mild personal attack and please don't be rude. So, this is a formal warning. C:-)

I've check out why i don't see any of it on Aliexpress app. Then i found it's because of my country as usual.

Looks really great, honestly I think my biggest issue with this figure is the weird gap between the jaws when the mouth is closed, you can see right through it. Not sure if this is on all the models or just his. Very tempting figure nonetheless.

In addition to the lack of lips, I must confess that I am disappointed by this toy's relatively small size. As you can plainly see in the video, every other T. rex toy can beat it up in a fight. Not to mention the Haolonggood Triceratops.

Again, that's not to say that isn't a beautifully sculpted toy. It is. And I certainly would have wanted to buy it five years ago.

That's why I like Rebor's figure a lot, its big and hefty.

Yeah, the size difference between the Trike and T. rex is insane. If a company is going to make both of these dinosaurs they really need to make sure they pair well together and these two do not.

I also find the gap in the closed mouth really off-putting. No point in giving it articulation when it will only look good with the mouth open.  :||

All that said, still an excellent model, and the blue is perhaps the best painted T. rex I've ever seen.
