This was going to be my first ever GR toys purchase and it had only just nosed in front of a PNSO Carcharodontosaurus which i had been looking at.

So far PNSO has been my company of choice but the striking colours of the GT Toys model caught my eye and I decided to take a gamble on what is a fairly expensive model, so it was with some trepidation that I opened the box when I got home from work on Wednesday afternoon.........

My first thoughts on removing the top layer of foam and seeing the model in the flesh was 'Wow!' The scales/skin texture is amazing, the colours are beautiful and application of pain is excellent.
So has a model straight from the box this one is a winner.

Now I am a fussy so and so when it come to models of anything which meant that I did want to remove any mold lines, fill any gaps and fix/fill the jaw in place. I did a very close examination of the model and made a note of what I wanted to sort. The bad news, there was quite a lot to do, the good news, with over 12 different colours/shades all ready applied at the factory any work I did was going to be very easy to blend in. :)

There was a visible joint along the top of the head, also were arms joined to the body, legs at the knees and a fair few mold lines plus of course the makers mark and lettering.

Mold lines were very easy to remove with my mold line remover and a sharpe modeling knife blade. I am always very careful not to scrape off any of the surrounding detail so a lot of time is taken on this job.
Writing was removed in the same way and makers mark filled and textured then left to set.

Next I filled around the arms, the leg joints and the head joint, again texturing and leaving to set. If to much is attempted in one go, before allowing areas to set, then I find I end up putting my fingers on the filler when I am trying to angle the model to get to the next part. This means I have to start the touched area again because it has been flattened out and the subtle texturing destroyed.  :(

The final job was to fix and fill the jaw. I do like articulated jaws because I can pose the model how I like but I do not like the way they look on the model out of the box.

Once every thing was dry I set about painting and shading the Milliput filler. As normal there were a couple of places that needed a little more filler or a little dried filler removing. This parts always show up better once the under coat has dried, so this was done before the final finish was applied.

I have taken close up's of the model to show the areas I filled and some of the work as it progressed so you can see how the filler as slowly been blended in with thin layers of paint and washes.

John :)

Your work is pausible. You make the dinosaurs that I would like all toy dinosaur companies to make, flawless and seamless. It is a very hard job, yours but honestly it should relax you. It is appreciated the documents both written and photographic that you contribute on the conversion of your dinosaurs into flawless figures. I said, I admire you.

avatar_MesozoicJohn @MesozoicJohn  This was already a great figure, but you've really pushed it up a notch. Beautiful work.
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.
