A new paper has just been published on the discovery of a new dinosaur in Hell Creek, a giant dromaeosaur they have named Dakotaraptor. The paper states that based on estimates from other dromaeosaurs, the animal could probably reach upwards of 5 meters, which is almost the size of Utahraptor! Not only do we now have another large predator in Hell Creek, but it is also an incredibly unique one. Funny to think that while just a few years ago we knew of no Hell Creek dromaeosaurs, they now appear to have been one of the most successful groups of predatory dinosaurs in the formation. And just to add to the weight of this discovery, the fossils clearly show that Dakotaraptor had quill knobs, firmly demonstrating that even big dromaeosaurs possessed large wings.
