Middle Jurassic sauropods like Mamenchisaurus, Omeisaurus, and Shunosaurus, might have been younger than originally thought, from the Late Jurassic rather than the Middle Jurassic. If so, that makes their relatively basal position in the neosauropod phylogeny in need of a biogeographic explanation.
