The Palaeoartist's Handbook: Recreating Prehistoric Animals in Art is a new resource for paleoartists on the way from Mark Witton. By the looks of it, it's going to be pretty comprehensive! I'm sure it would be useful a lot of the sculptors and other artists here on the forum :)

In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

I like the skin texture of the Triceratops on the cover.

Maybe it's just me but the skin texturing bothers me for some reason. I like Witton and his work but the skin in this particular piece looks kind of monster like. Maybe that's what he was going for.

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

He did base it on the fossil skin impression, and extended the spikes a bit.  If he hadn't, they'd look like nipples pacifiers. ;D
