Sexual dimorphism is common in nature, but notoriously difficult to detect in fossils, because there are so few dispositive clues to sex. Using a set of 40 specimens, including one gravid (pregnant) female, these researchers believe they've found a way to detect dimorphism in at least a couple of ichthyosaur species (genus Chaohusaurus).

The biggest clue seems to be flipper length relative to body length: males have longer flippers.

In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.
