Meet Alcmonavis poeschli, an avialan from the Late Jurassic of Germany, which appears to be more crownward than Archaeopteryx and is hence likely to be the closest relative of crown-group birds known from the Jurassic. It's also a bit bigger than its famous contemporary. It's a beautiful, if incomplete, fossil, consisting of a humerus and most of the forearm and hand.
