These aren't really up my alley, but you or your kids might like them. Halftoys models by LearnPlay feature dinosaurs (and other animals) with a stylized skeleton, a fleshed-out shell that encloses it, and a little environment for it to live in. Here's the Diplodocus:

Also available in Ankylosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and Tyrannosaurus, with others in the works.

Definitely worth considering for young nephew and niece! I reckon my sister would definitely approve of these as a gift, her son is coming up 2 and he's very smart (and boisterous) and seems to be drawn to the natural world (always a good sign I feel!) Thank you for sharing!

I appreciate ideas and companies like these. We are a TOY forum where also things like may should find their niche.

Halftoys is expanding their dinosaur line, with a Kickstarter (already funded after just a few days!) featuring six baby dinosaurs, complete with diapers and optional cribs.
