So the ark is a multiplayer focused dinosaur survival game that i'm really exited for. It seems to be like Rust/Day Z but with dinosaurs.
It will be available at early access from steam in June I think. In June 2016 it will be fully released. They say there will be up to and over 70 unique dinosaur and other pre-historic animals. At early access it has 30 animals. There are big plans for this game. There are mammoths and dodos and tons of sea life with megaladons and stuff. There seem to be pre-historic crocodiles as well. There are gonna be automatic turrets and gas-powered vehicles like boats and helicopters, there is a wether system and ridable dinosaurs and water tight under water bases available at full access. The game will be available for PS4, Xbox one, PC, Mac and Linux.

1st(/3rd) person Paraworld, nice!

I will try and hold back my excitement, I don't want to get too hyped after the Stomping Land disaster ;)

When I saw "Multiplayer dinosaur survival game" on IGN, I got really excited...until I read that you were hunting them.  Why can't I just play as a dinosaur?  I love dinosaurs and I'm tired of dinosaur games where the only reason they're there is for you to kill.  I know this game lets you ride them, but the point remains that for the most part, you'll probably be killing them.

Also, bet you guys anything that if a Dilophosaurus shows up in the game, it will be tiny, have a frill, and spit venom at people. :-\
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

Yeah, judging by the raptors I think you are correct. It would be cool to play as a dinosaur though with survival things like a forest fire or storms. To tame a dinosaur you have to knock it out or something and even while your doing the process of it another dino could eat you. Apparently there is also like a food chain where dinosaurs hunt each other. This game to me seems too good to be true and after the fail of the Stomping Land I'm a bit worried.

Brontozaurus

Like you guys I'm quite interested but I'm not going to rush in and buy early access. Even leaving aside the Stomping Land, this weird little genre is infamous for titles that don't live up to the hype.

On the other hand, the devs have made it clear that they're both aware of this and actually working to avoid falling into the same traps. The early access phase is going to last for at least a year, for one. Plus they've revealed that anyone who bought the Stomping Land will get a pair of awesome shades in-game for their dinosaurs as a 'we're not going to mess it up this time' present. So they've got both good credentials and good PR.

Also yes they did reveal a frilled, venomous Dilophosaurus. But the inaccuracies all seem to be part of the plot, as it seems that the island and the animals on it were created by a unknown party (possibly aliens). Which only makes me more keen to get into this (if it's good) and find out the secrets of the Ark.

I went ahead and purchased the game, but sadly it simply won't run correctly. I've readjusted my driver settings and lowered the in-game graphics to the bottom. I realize this is an issue with the game and not my computer, so I'll have to wait until this issue is corrected as the game progresses. Any others with this problem?

It's a very poorly optimised game. Even people with the best graphics cards have trouble getting it to run consistently. That's more or less the point of it being in early access, to get feedback on such issues.

I do not have the best graphics card. Mine is over four years old, and several editions behind the one that the game recommends for the lowest setting. Subsequently the game looks terrible on my PC. I'm considering upgrading.

I play this game for a while now,I have to set everything to low except textures at medium and it still have a little lag but playable.

CityRaptor

Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

stargatedalek

My thoughts on ARK:

- stargatedalek: this is not even vaguely playable ;-;
- "friend": I told you it's poorly optimized :P
- "friend": write a bad review
- stargatedalek: yah but this is awful
- stargatedalek: TSL was beter than this
- stargatedalek: ark lags my pc to the point the entire pc is unusable D:
- "friend": jeeze
- stargatedalek: .5 fps is not a joke
- stargatedalek: and it spread its .5 fps to my whole pc
- "friend": it's because, as someone nicely put it, "the 4x textures and uneccesary grass polygons everywhere"
- "friend": also probably not helped by the fact like TSL they render water under the map
- stargatedalek: oh god why would anyone do that

TLDR; Optimize your game before you start adding dozens of new animals or items.

I don't think I'm really interesting in playing this game, optimizations aside. I've always found this a really boring genre in general, so although I'll probably watch it a bit on Youtube, it's still just the same game we've seen before, but with dinosaurs.

Since 2015 many things have changed so Ark has a lot of new creatures and features. In the last years Studio Wildcard added more "fantasy" stuff like the DLC Aberration but some new "normal" dinosaurs, too.  ^-^

Personally, I like to play the game on the standard maps without all the special creatures (well, the Tek Dinos are there too and my laptop is not able to handle the bigger ones xD hope that'll change soon)  O:-)

Do any of you own the game?

stargatedalek

Pretty sure there is a newer topic for this game somewhere.

Anyway, game is awesome now! Actually having a PC that can run it it quickly became my favourite game.

I play it on Xbox. Don't have the PC specs for it. Got it on Gamepass. Really glad most of the DLC's were added through that as well just recently. I've been enjoying Aberration lately. I only play the game solo since I'm not into playing games with strangers.

Edit: Really glad most of my favorite prehistoric animals are in it like Diplocaulus, Dunkleosteus, Lystrosaurus, Moschops, plenty of dinosaurs like Allosaurus, Carnotaurus, Yutyrannus, etc, and many of my favorite mammals too like Paraceratherium, Thylacoleo, etc. Really only a few more I would like to see in it really.

If there's a newer topic I didn't find it :')
I would like to play with a better quality, but my Laptop won't be able to handle it  ::) hoping to get a PC soon.  Do you have a favorite DLC? Tbh I'm  a fan of Ark since the release and for more than a half year I finally own it.

Right, Ark is also available for Xbox! I have it the other way around, no Xbox here  :P at the moment I'm playing solo, too, but as soon as possible I'll play with friends of mine (pc necessary).

Over the years Ark added so many amazing dinosaurs! As you I like the Yuty, Allosaurus and Thylacoleo, but also the Dunkleosteus but my favorite atm is the Baryonyx!  I also got a bundle around Easter so I guess I have all the maps that were available at this time. But through the conditions I'm just on "The Island". Hopefully soon I'll explore Fjördur and/or Ragnarok!

If you take a look at Steam's Workshop then there are so many mods adding more unique Dinosaurs (just saw some good ones by looking for the ones I need to play with my friends soon). Can list them up here later

Syndicate Bias

I played Ark since the very beginning many years ago. The game has improved drastically but where the story is headed does not really interest me. Mainly because despite having the Tek tier now vs before where we didn't has sort of ruined that idea of the game being a primitive survival game obviously it was never meant to be just that given that the obelisks existed back then but I cannot help but wonder how much better it would've been if they just kept adding more dinos and given out more TLC updated rather than these weird creatures we get nowadays.

Ofcourse one can play it a certain way and take the tek tier out but it somehow ruins it by being in tje background for me.

I'll never forget the first time I tamed a Pteranodon and flew across the forests of the island. Truly a magical moment when you flew over what was essentially a dangerous place and escaped all of it by simply flying away.

Not sure if a separate thread for this is needed but I guess Ark is getting an animated series now?

Really good voice cast it looks like.

Edit: Um yeah so how did I forgot to mention the fact Ark 2 is going to be a thing?

And the series will apparently be sticking pretty close to the in-game lore, which, yes ARK has lore, and B, means this series will probably have some great representation (no further spoilers).

Mellow Stego

I gave it for Xbox. It has its problems, but still a fun game.
I also prefer playing solo because I just like to take my time and play my own way.
Keep calm and love dinosaurs
