Sad, last of the Universal Classic Monster actors. 6'5" Ben Chapman played the creature on land and 6' Ricou played him in the water due to his amazing swimming abilities. I got to meet Ben just before he died but I never got to meet Ricou, I wish I had. I always loved the creature and appreciated it even more as a sculptor. Side note, in 1954 head of Universal's Make Up dept Bud Westmore took all the credit for the creature but it was actually designed by a woman Milicent Patrick.
RIP Ricou.

Ah that's unfortunate to hear. That was one of my favorite classic monster flicks growing up too. May he rest in peace.
