What new mini figures do you wish would be made?

Quote from: Torvosaurus on April 19, 2025, 12:31:10 AMWhat is your definition of mini figures? Are we looking at tube-sized prehistorics or small models like the Kaiyodo line, or at small prehistorics that could have a figure? I'm a little confused here.

Torvo

It is a bit of a vibes-based distinction! For me it's Safari Toob figures, most Kaiyodo or other gashapon figures, Yowie figures, etc. Starlux is right at the border of 'non-mini' for me, although you could also argue for some of the smaller CollectA popular range figures.

Neat figures indeed, but not an option for exclusively PVC figure collectors.

It's a shame that you'd close those figures off for that reason.

There's a bunch of lipped Tyrannosaurus models available in the same format, yet you also request those from PNSO, for example. Are the printed versions not sufficient? What's the difference?

There are hundreds of taxa I'd buy in mini form, but some that spring to mind are:

Drepanosaurus
Foreyia
Icarosaurus
Tricerichthys
Tullimonstrum

The difference is, companies are highly unlikely to make models of small animals in 1:35, so the 3D printed ones by independent paleoartists are really our only option.

I appreciate the thought Joel.  I too don't collect resin figures, I like knowing I don't have to be super careful handling my figures or else they break.  There are some 1:35 figures of smaller species, for example all the Kaiyodo Plesiosaurus figures and the CollectA Kentrosaurus.  Even the PNSO Huayangosaurus!  Then there are other small species that are available in close to that scale, e.g. Safari toob Beipiaosaurus is in 1:30 scale.  I have hope that more mini figures that work well with larger figures will come!  And if they don't, well I'm already planning to have some good small figures customised to make them perfect!

It's a trade off, that's for sure! I do much prefer PVC figures, but say I really want a 1:35 scale Coelophysis, Deinonychus, Inostrancevia, Dryosaurus etc, then I have to take that chance with a more delicate material.

Also I love everything to be in scale 😂

Likewise in the absolute, even if some sauropods would be relatively appreciated.

In case you hadn't considered them, the Kaiyodo Coelophysis and Deinonychus are in 1:35 scale last time I checked.  The Deinonychus are a bit outdated but I'm considering getting one of them and having a professional add remiges and rectrices to it.

J @Joel1905 I think the Kaiyodo Coelophysis is a bit large for 1:35, more like 1:30 minimum (which may still work for you).

As for Deinonychus: I've mentioned this before, but the Kaiyodo Dakotaraptor, which does have accurate wings, makes a decent stand-in for a 1:35 Deinonychus.

I'm using the Toyway WWD Leaellynasaura as a Dryosaurus. It might be a bit large for 1:35, but then again it might not as all known specimens are juvenile. (Of course, getting hold of one is another story...)
One day we will know the truth about Spinosaurus... but not today.

For a much easier alternative, the Science and Nature Atlascopcosaurus works for Dryosaurus as well (or nanosaurus, leaellynasaura, etc)

It does, but that figure has somewhat stylised proportions and looks a bit cartoony.

At that point, that's your own discretion then. I'm just saying it is an option.

My choices are:

Velociraptor
Deinonychus
Microraptor
Saurornithoides
Buitreraptor
Linheraptor
Dakosaurus maximus
Paracyclotosaurus
Dromaeosaurus
Chungkingosaurus

Halichoeres

Wait, are we doin' ten? In that case I revise my list:

Dollocaris
Drepanosaurus
Elginia
Foreyia
Icarosaurus
Scutellosaurus
Sharovipteryx
Tricerichthys
Tullimonstrum
Zatrachys

You got it in just in time, Tim, I'm going to make the poll now!  It's been a week since I started this thread and I think now is the right time to start the poll! :)
