It still baffles me as to why Late Cretaceous Asia had all those giant herbivorous theropods (Deinocheirus, Therizinosaurus, Gigantoraptor) stomping around. As they're in different families, the only explanation is that there was some kind of selective pressure that favored giant herbivorous theropods, but I have no idea what that would be.

To be fair, we're still not sure whether Deinocheirus was feathered: On the 1 hand, it was an ornithomimosaur; On the other hand, it was a T.rex-sized subtropical endotherm (probably); The same goes for Therizinosaurus. I like to think that they were at least fuzzy (like this: http://images5.fanpop.com/image/photos/28200000/Therizinosaurus-dinosaurs-28287278-512-632.jpg ), but I'm just not sure.

Since we're sharing Deinocheirus reconstructions (outdated or otherwise), see the following pic for my favorite, Rey's heavy metal face Deinocheirus. I'm especially curious as to how the real thing compares to Rey's reconstruction proportionally ("In this reconstruction I extrapolated the proportions of an ornithomimid to a its giant consequences resulting in an animal somewhat similar to the therizinosaurs in bulk and shape": http://www.luisrey.ndtilda.co.uk/html/deinonew.htm ).
