The JP movies are also not that bad. They just should have kept up with modern depictions of Dinosaurs, like the first one did.  At least it gets mentioned in JW that the animals in the park are not accurate.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Gwangi

Even the worst JP movie far surpasses about 80% of all other dinosaur movies.

Yup, for all their scientific laws, they are still far better than most dinosaur movies.

CityRaptor

You mean flaws.
Dinosaurs are awesome animals, who unfortunately often get to star in terrible movies. Although I think the rate in which those come out has increased thanks to cheap CGI. And unlike many bad movies of the past, those are not even entertaining.

Yes, flaws. Sorry. :)

Jurassic Park is pretty much the same as the the original King Kong ( I could also name The Lost World, but I think King Kong is more popular with the general audience ), a movie that changed the public concept of Dinosaurs, reflecting more or less the knowledge of that time.  Let's hope that we don't need to wait another 38 years for another such movie.

Several chances were given in the last couple of years (at least in terms of movies) all wee blown.

That depends on how one defines "blown". Jurassic World may not have been accurate but it was an undeniable success, whereas Dino Island and WWD3D fit the other end of the spectrum. In terms of the animal depictions themselves we've had more diversity of dinosaur movies the past few years than ever before, we've just had less big name dinosaur movies.

"Blown" as in: they had a chance to spread current dino-knowledge, but instead took the safe and conservative route. I was not referring to how much money or fame each film made.

CityRaptor

Unfortunately the big moneymaker was the conservative one.

Indeed, and that is the problem.

And then there is the other Dinosaur movie with terrible designs this year.

Of course other media, like books and comics have a very similar ratio i.e. Frank Zindel's Raptor, all those sexual fantasy books or Topps and IDW's Jurassic Park Comics. In case of Topps I'm refering to those not based on the movies, like the Raptor-Trilogy. I mean Drug Dealers using Dinosaurs as guard dogs? Seriously? And that happened in both, the Topps and IDW comics.

Yes, the film that most not be named.

Oh for sure books are an issue as well, from containing information that was outdated a decade ago, to using stock images (often the Papo Rex) to having outright lies.

And  then there are the Dino-docs. The worst of which has to be "clash of the dinosaurs".

CityRaptor

I was actually talking about fiction, but non-fiction is an issue, too. There is a reason why I barely buy Dinosaur books in German anymore. They are mostly terrible.

No problem.

I think the last good book that was released here was the translation of Nash's "The Great Dinosaur Discoveries" which was like flower that grew  out of a pot of dirt at that time.

I've seen that book at the library, but I have never read it

Off-hand, I'd say the worst dino film for me isn't one specific film, but rather, any dinosaur film that didn't have proper dinosaurs and instead used real lizards or reptiles disguised as dinosaurs. They drive me bonkers.
