. . . that isn't part of the JP franchise.

For myself, it would have to be Prehysteria. I still remember my mother threatening to cancel our Viewer's Choice subscription if I continued to order such garbage.

Bearing in mind that I haven't watched any dinosaur movies in this millennium...

The original Land Before Time still holds a special place in my heart, but some of the sequels were excruciatingly bad. Carnosaur was pretty horrible too - or at least I thought so. Maybe I just don't understand the appeal of gore.

I couldn't tell you much about Prehysteria but I do recall that I enjoyed it. Of course, no 11-year old has good taste (no offense, youngsters, you'll think the same thing when you're as old and crusty as I am).

A dinosaur movie that should be terrible but is somehow great instead is Caveman, starring Ringo Starr.

Probably one of those Asylum Style films. Those are all pretty bad. And I don't mean so bad it's good. Indeed I can't sit through them. Also the Carnosaur films. The sixth Continent is pretty bad aswell...as are most films with Slurpasaurs. And Disney's Dinosaur.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Ha! I remember my mother renting that movie for me when I was younger. She was so happy to have found a dinosaur movie that I hadn't seen that I didn't want to express any sort of displeasure with the movie itself. To this day I cringe at the memory of that dancing T. rex animation.

The *worst* dinosaur movie I've ever seen is probably Future War, although the MST3K treatment helps a lot. By comparison, I'd say that the most *disappointing* dinosaur movie I've ever seen is Disney's "Dinosaur." The first preview--consisting of the movie's first four or five minutes--was absolutely breathtaking, but it's all downhill from there. They've got an Iguanodon learning life lessons from a lemur, for cryin' out loud...

Definately wents downhill once the first lemur shows up.  ;D

Unpopular opinion time... I actually really liked Disney's Dinosaur as a kid, and even as an adult it's still one of my favorite Disney movies.
I don't know, maybe it's nostalgia, maybe it's the music, maybe it's the landscapes, but I really like it. I watched it for the first time in a while a few months ago and it still had the same magic as when I was little and begging my parents to take me to see it for the whatever time. It's not perfect, but I like it and, as far as I know, it was the first time Pachyrhinosaurus was put in a movie and they were always my favorite lol. Plus, Joan Plowright (Baylene) and Alfre Woodard (Plio) are super talented actresses and Della Reese (Eema) is an absolute icon.

Idk, I guess that's the great thing about movies, we can agree to disagree?

As far as worst dinosaur movie I've ever seen? Probably one of those SyFy original horror movies where halfway through you look up from the magazine you're reading and ask, "Why am I watching this? Is that supposed to be a T-rex? Why is it fighting an anaconda in downtown Miami? Please don't breed it with a shark. Shark-rex. Oh no, that's gonna be a thing now, isn't it?"

I liked Disneys Dinosaurs Despite those Damn lemurs.

I also liked Carnosaur, Were'e Back, and Theodore Rex.

Worst Dinosaur movies i ever saw are

Jurassic City

Rise of the Dinosaurs

100 Million BC (An asylum Movie)

And Extinction

it's probably too easy to pick a SyFy or Asylum or straight to DVD dinosaur flick because there are a ton of them and they're all awful. There are just too many to sort through.

It would also be easy to pick an older "guy in costume" movie too buy there are A LOT of bad ones including "The Last Dinosaur" and "Unknown Island". In the case of "Unknown Island" a man in a T. rex suit actually faints on screen from heat exhaustion. They kept it in the film because it conveniently happened while the protagonists were  throwing grenades at the dinosaurs. The giant sloth in the movie is also bad, like REALLY bad and unrecognizable as a giant sloth. But those old movies are fun to watch, and often so bad they're good so I can't really pick those either.

Honestly there are a lot of movies worse than "Prehysteria", "Prehysteria 2" being one of them! A few really bad ones that come to mind include "Tammy and the T. rex", "Theodore Rex", "We're Back" and "Adventures in Dinosaur City".

Contenders for the worst dinosaur movies IMO would be the ones that just aren't watchable. Not the kind that are "so bad they're good" but the kind lacking in any kind of B-movie charm or cheese factor. That rules out "Carnosaur" IMO which is a fun and intentionally bad low budget horror movie. It also stars Diane Lads who happens to be Laura Dern's mother, that's right...Ellie Sattler. "Carnosaur" also has a long list of characters named after birds; Dr. Sterling Raven, Anne Trush, Susan Mallard, Swanson among others. Pretty clever if you ask me given the dinosaur/bird connection.

There is a clear winner here IMO. By far the worst dinosaur movie would have to be "Super Mario Bros" which has no redeeming qualities. You can't watch it to laugh at it, or watch it ironically. It's not so bad it's good, it's just flat out bad. I can think of some older movies that utilize dressed up lizards and force them to fight, some of those are really bad but especially "Dinosaur King" which is a deadly boring flick.

"Walking With Dinosaurs" while visually impressive MIGHT be the most disappointing dinosaur movie. Not the worst, but the most disappointing.

I'll agree with you on this much: the soundtrack is great. I still listen to it at the start of every summer.

As for the rest...well, it all comes down to a matter of taste, doesn't it? My own expectations affected my response: I wanted a dinosaur version of "The Lion King," without any tacit implication that mammals are better than dinosaurs, and I didn't get it. I can see how the movie would be enjoyable enough if you didn't have that image in your head before going in.

stargatedalek

I haven't seen it in many years but Disney Dinosaur always bothered me as a child, and it would still probably be the first thing that comes to mind as a least favorite dinosaur movie. Perhaps it's just because up until that point my experience with dinosaurs was from Jurassic Park and Dinosaur Planet (oh how the mighty Discovery Channel has fallen...), so the moderately anthropomorphized Disney Dinosaur characters were somewhat terrifying to me.

I'll have you know

Disneysaur was what got me interested in dinosaurs in the first place
like a bantha!

To be honest, I'm indifferent towards Disney's Dinosaur, although the fact that they gave the Iguanodon lips really freaked me out. The worst dinosaur movie I've personally seen would have to be The Dinosaur King. While the CGI is fair, the voiceover is ten times worse than Walking with Dinosaurs the movie, and that says something. I'm sure there are worse ones out there, but that's to worst experience I've personally had with a dinosaur movie.

- Someone, somewhere, probably.

Runner up would be Speckles the Tarbosaurus.

But the worst ever would be Dinosaur Adventure on PS2. It's kind of misleading since it's on PS2, but it's presented as a film.

I dare you to watch the whole thing.

I forgot about "The Dinosaur King" aka "Speckles the Tarbosaurus" (same movie I believe). Yeah, I couldn't watch that one. I made it through Mario at least but I had to turn that movie off as soon as I heard the voices.

stargatedalek

I'd forgotten about Dinosaur Adventure, seems I need to change my answer.

I've never seen Speckles the Tarbosaurus, but if I know anything about dubs I can sympathize. :P

Hey, now. Some dubs are brilliant, even improving upon the original work. It's not fair to lump them all together!
But perhaps that is a topic for a different thread.

Just finished watching it, that was the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. The weird bird thing is just so funny! WAYYY better than The Dinosaur King, this gets a ten out of ten ;D
