You know, I never quite know how to start these intro things. Guess I'll just cut to the chase. I have recently started a collection of dinosaur and dragon things. Growing up I really wanted both dragon and Dino toys but there were none to be found. While I'm certain that basic plastic Dinos were available ( have they ever not been? ) I specifically wanted a plush Dragon or T-Rex and nothing like that existed in my neck of the woods. These days thanks to my obsessive compulsive disorder I'm just the opposite. I don't like plush anymore. It  rips, it gets dirty and/or matted. It's just hard to maintain.
It's been a good couple of years for toy dinosaurs. What with the Jurassic World, Zoomer and Fingerlings Dinos. Dragons, not so much but that doesn't matter here since this is a Dino toy forum. Suffice it to say that there was a flimsily made FurReal Friends dragon and upcoming Fingerlings dragons and that's about it. I'll shut up about dragons now. I only felt that aspect was relevant due to my interest in both developing from a love of monster movies. I'm aware they aren't the same thing despite the fact they are both sometimes depicted similarly in fiction.
At any rate my Dino collection hasn't gotten very far yet. I have three of the Zoomer Chomplingz Dinos and 11 of the new Fingerlings Dinos. I suffer from an anxiety disorder which is so bad I legally qualify as disabled. I've found holding and petting these Dinos calms me down when I'm having one of my freak outs. Another reason I no longer care for plush. Plenty of anxiety sufferers do that kind of thing with stuffed animals and they almost always wind up bald and worn sometimes to the point of disintegrating. Plastic doesn't tend to do that.
In my online research I've seen many.awesomely realistic dinosaur figures. Sadly these are pretty much out of my reach. I no longer order online ( plays hell with my OCD and anxiety. I stress out over things getting lost ) and with Toys R Us now a thing of the past I'm left to rely on whatever Walmart carries. Even at that I have to limit my runs to once a month both due to limited funds and anxiety kicking in if I'm out of the house too long.
I'm aware a lot of Dino collectors are sticklers for scientific accuracy. I'm a little ashamed to say that doesn't really matter much to me. Realistic dinos, unrealistic, purely fictional godzillaesque depictions. I'll buy any of it. And I have to admit I have a soft spot for the more lizardy depictions. They remind me of the two pet iguanas I had as a teenager.
I'll also admit to not having a large amount of scientific knowledge on dinosaurs. Just by browsing the posts here I see there are quite a few with an impressive amount of knowledge here. Me, I just collect because something about Dino toys eases my anxiety for some reason that I have yet to figure out. I don't knock it. It works. This, by the way would have been helpful to know earlier in life. The mental illness started to kick in when I was about thirteen in the early 90s. This was smack dab in the Jurassic Park era where dinosaur stuff was everywhere. Perhaps if I had discovered this wierd little quirk then I would have suffered less. I was not yet being treated because my father refused to allow it due to not wanting me to be seen as abnormal. A real stickler for normality was my father. Although come to think of it he probably wouldn't have been cool with me holding and petting plastic dinosaurs either so I guess it's a moot point.
At any rate I'm glad to be here and I hope you all won't think me to be too much of an idiot. Thinking I'm a wierdo is fine though. I know I am.

Untamed dino - Welcome! We love weirdos here. I'm a card-carrying member myself. And don't worry if you're not a high-faluting dinosaur expert. I have a soft spot for gape-mouthed, tail dragging monsters. A lot of folks on here have nostalgia for the weird, goofy dino toys of olde. Thanks for giving us such an extensive intro too! You're gonna fit right in with us dino brains.
We are accustomed to look upon the shackled form of a conquered monster, but there - there you could look at a thing monstrous and free." - King Kong, 2005

Welcome!

First off, there are all sorts of dinosaur model...collect what you like. We'll tell you when you're wrong... ;)

Second, there are lots of dragon figures around now--Safari makes all sorts, in a variety of themes.

Third, we don't thrown rocks at newbies here. We prefer to wait to know what kind of rocks you'd like.

Hello and welcome to the forum , I have a good feeling about this!

Neosodon

Certainly don't mind having another weirdo on the forum. Misery loves company. ;) Anyways I hope you enjoy the forum. And don't worry if your not a dinosaur expert now, you will be soon enough. >:D

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

Welcome to the forum!  :)

Don't worry about being a 'weirdo'. As BlueKrono said, a lot of members here (including myself to a small degree) 'carry cards' themselves.

Welcome! If we throw rocks, it will only be to say "look at the cool fossil embedded in it!"
