Lilstock Shastasaurus

I just finished sculpting my interpretation of a Lilstock Shastasaurus in 1/24 scale. The swimmer, dolphin and great white shark are all in that scale even though Lilly would never have encountered any of them. I am not 100% happy with the paint job I did on her. I painted her in less than two hours on Monday night. I am almost happy with my sculpting. Not quite though. She is bare of any skin details like wrinkles or scars. They may come. But I have worked at her since April and I'm a bit tired.

Lilly is comprised mainly of Bondo automotive body resin over a foam core. I will not do anything this large again. But ever since the announcement last year about the Lilstock jaw fragment I have wanted to sculpt an eighty-five foot Shastasaurus in 1/24 scale. She is just a bit over 42 inches long. The last details I added was Lilly's nostrils and cloaca. Can't have an animal sculpture that can't breath or poop now can we? This is the first time I have tried glass eyes.

Silvanusaurus

I am not going to lie to you... I think she looks absolutely perfect. The smooth, elegant simplicity of the sculpt is truly beautiful, just as a piece of artwork in itself, its wonderful. I don't have any knowledge about whether it would be more lifelike, but personally I don't think she needs any extra detail or wrinkles, etc. She looks so good as is.  :D I just love the face so much!

Lanthanotus

I agree with Silvanusaurus, the, I dare say, "simple" look is just and the more fitting for such a big aquatic animal. It looks like it would make a perfect company to Schleich's Shonisaurus or CollectA's Kronosaurus.

Nice work. It's simple, smooth, and elegant.

avatar_modelnut @modelnut The figure apart from being well made looks huge!

Einherjar

That is awesome. And huge! I agree with the others, no details needed, but I think I agree with you on the paintjob. I think it could use a bit more contrast. If you do some wide airbrushing with a transparent dark grey/blue color from the top, I think it could make it really pop. Love the patterns you've made though, they're just a little hard to see.

I have the Mega Sofubi Blue Whale for inspiration on the paint job. But I only had one night to paint Lilly before my local model club meeting where she would make her debut. That's where I took those pictures. The lighting was better than any place I could think of in my house. And there were fewer cats!  ;D

And my airbrush got clogged with a clump pf paint. That took an hour to sort out. So I tried for a deep water shimmering effect in the short time I had left. It turned out better than I had hoped. But I may yet try to give her a better paint job next week. We will see.

That's a beautiful model, well done. Very imposing, appropriate to such a gargantuan animal.

I really love this sculpt. I think smooth works nicely in this kind of animals and I like the coloration I think it works out well with those shades of light blue and darker blue, but I'm sure if you decide to revise it you can make it even better.

Killekor

You did a really great job sculpting that Shastasaurus!
As the other members that replied to this thread, I really like the simplicity and the elegance of your work. It looks so natural and calm! Plus, I really like it's color scheme.
Congrats for your amazing work! I'm curious to see other sculptures made by you, if you make more.

Bigger than a camarasaurus,
and with a bite more stronger that the T-Rex bite,
Ticamasaurus is certainly the king of the Jurassic period.

With Balaur feet, dromaeosaurus bite, microraptor wings, and a terrible poison, the Deinoraptor Dromaeonychus is a lethal enemy for the most ferocious hybrid too.

Amazing sculpts and huge! ;D
I always enjoy looking at other artists work, keep up the great works, can't wait to see any future figures.

Feeling "blah" today. No urge to do any real modeling. So  I thought I would share this picture of Lilly with a few items in her scale, a VW Bug, a Ford Focus (the family car), a black-tip reef shark, a leather-back turtle and a bottle-nosed dolphin. See why I love 1/24th scale?

Shonisaurus

It has been great this shastasaurus you are a great artist I congratulate you. We would need a collection / toy brand (ie made of PVC) a shastasaurus of the same degree of genius as the one you have made. Magnificent figure I congratulate you.

Halichoeres

Great tableau to illustrate its massiveness!
