Lets say im looking for a model that is extremely rare or unable to be found. But there is a bootleg of that model. Is it okay to get that bootleg even if the original is discontinued. I know its know is wrong to buy bootlegs of modern figures, but how about long gone dead ones

I personally don't buy bootlegs, as they don't feel authentic or right to me, and don't support the original designer and manufacturer of the original figure. No matter how hard the original figure may be to find, I dont buy bootlegs just because of the authenticity issue, but you may have different feelings regarding bootlegs.
You must understand the past before you can change the future.

Most of my figures were chinasaurs or bootlegs as a child. I was just asking think because i thought it was wrong. I saw a bootleg of a discontinued figure in which the only difference was a slighly visible seam and a different color pallete

You may have to worry about the plastic being of lesser quality than the original. But if you really want it,then get it while it's available. :)
Don't you hate it when you legitimately compliment someone's mustache and she gets angry with you?

I see it like software piracy; if the original creators are no longer offering the product for sale than any one you happen to find is being sold by a third party and not supporting the original creators anyway.

It's a matter at that point of whether you are willing to put up with inferior quality.

No, i'd just repaint it to combat its inferior quality

Lots of good discussion on this at the knock-offs thread: http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=2679.0

I'm pretty against buying knockoffs of anything currently in production. I also don't knowingly buy knockoffs of discontinued items, but that's mostly because of my effete collector's aesthetic rather than a moral stance. I guess there's a case to be made that even buying knockoffs of discontinued figures helps keep bootleggers in business, which I'd prefer not to do.
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.
