Water in a Diorama

I have a styrofoam base, and was looking to add water to it. The thing is, the front is open as well as the back, and I don't think it would look so cool to have a "cutaway view" of the water - I think the straight edge on it would interrupt and cut up the "flow" of the front edge. (the light blue "water")

Aside from making it an enclosed pool, how do you handle a river that is flowing thru your diorama? Anyone have pix for examples?

I would suggest Deluxe Materials' products- specifically Making Waves http://www.deluxematerials.com/scalemakingwaves.html

or Solid Water

I really like Deluxe Materials, they also manufacture some great quality epoxy and cyanoacrylate glues, and other useful modelling materials. I use their roket glue for model kits and it's really good.
Unfortunately, they seem to be a UK based firm. I don't know what country you're in, and I don't know if you could get them anywhere else (although there probably are some retailers selling in other countries)

Horizon Hobby in the U.S. is the distributor but they don't show Solid Water on their list yet. If you go to the Deluxe Material web site they show where to buy all over the world. If you can stand the bloody blinking! :o

Pachyrhinosaurus

I know Woodland Scenics makes water as well, they are in almost all the train stores around here.

I use folded cyran wrap for water falls and creeks. Quick, easy and cheap.

You mean saran wrap, right? Although here in the UK, it's called cling film.

Yep. I buy a cheap off brand version at dollar stores here and I couldn't for the life of me recall how the actual name brand was spelled..apparently spell check didn't know either..lol The U.K. nmae is much more descriptive. :)

I use purpose glue because is a cheap  option because you can find in dollars store and the results are very nice from my pont of view

You mean hot glue ?  I've done some pieces with it before as well. Some brands work better than others.

I don't think this was question about how to model water. It was about how to deal with a model of a river that is flowing through the front of the diorama, without making a cross-section through the water.

Some form of frame around the base is the only solution I can think of. If you don't want that, you could slope the front down, maybe with a little waterfall, but you'd need to model the right sort of movement in the water for it to look convincing.

Is purpose glue what you used for the diorama that you use for a sig?

fleshanthos

Thanks, gents, for all of the suggestions - yes, I did mean something similar to Jetoar's - it looks like the river just continues off the end of his diorama! But I have a deeper area to fill. I think I will try it this afternoon with melty plastic beads...
