So anyways what do you think it's more reasonable, the Lusotitan airsacs or those in Dreadnoughtus from Prehistoric Planet?

Crackington

Not sure about the titanosaur airways, looks interesting and will check out the episode when I get there later.

I have just seen Episode 1 and I quite enjoyed it. Judging by the Doctor Who trailer at the beginning, I think it's aimed at a young audience and was pretty good in that regard. Good to see real paleontologists and fossils on there.

Clover's story was quite compelling and the dinosaurs nicely done. I did think a lot of folk on here will hate it and pick out a myriad things wrong with it - it's at Safari or Collecta level rather than PNSO!

That said, I'm glad the BBC made it - good to have something non Jurassic Park franchise for the youngsters and evidently made with high production values.

Now that you mention it it does feel somewhat for younger audiences since we don't get much gore and the only scary moment is Alanqa stalking the spinosaurs. But it's repeatedly pointed out that several of the specimens are animals that died young so that's some oddly nihilistic messaging

Now that sounds like classic WWD  :))

Given the time slot in which it's scheduled, the story lines and the manner of presentation, it's most certainly not aimed at the vast majority of people on this forum. It's aimed at youngsters.  I think judged by that yardstick it works well enough. I'd have enjoyed the story of Clover without being too scared or upset if I was seven. Being too knowledgeable has its own drawbacks - as I find when I watch most programmes about the classical world on the television!

My local paper says the 16th as well.

They really undercooked the palaeontologist segments

For example in episode 2..
They hold the skull of that crocodile. One of them mentions a tooth. But they literally don't point it out, or point out the tooth sockets, or even really explain what is is or show how it's a piece of a larger skull.

They could have placed it on a drawing or next to a full replica.

And my family was watching with me and was confused by the titanosaur footprints- it's all well and good having the palaeontologist talk to eachother about how they can see toes, but why not point out the toes to the audience? Why not show the shape of the foot and do something like overlay a drawing or the foot skeleton over it ?

To the average person, it looks like random rocks. And it does not connect the fossils to the dinosaurs enough to make sense of it for these people.

We don't even really get to see full skeleton replicas alongside the animals. We don't see the puzzle of which they are holding pieces of. It is all so so odd to me how little the palaeontologist parts matter when arguably they are the main draw of this version of the series.

I watched episode 3 tonight, I really liked that one despite the fact it features so few species

The ending is particularly depressing

Of potential interest to those living in the USA and Canada:  To my surprise, PBS will be airing the new Walking With Dinosaurs series beginning Monday, June 16 at 8pm ET.  Apologies if this has been mentioned already.

I wasn't aware PBS operated in Canada!

i don't know how much of Canada can get PBS but in Toronto and probably at least most of Southern Ontario it's available.  The station runs out of Buffalo and gets significant donations from Canadian viewers......so much so they call the station: PBS Buffalo-Toronto.

My mother used to donate often while she was alive.

Good to know! Makes sense, with Buffalo being so close to the populous parts of Ontario.

I watched the first two episodes tonight. Not bad, but knowing ahead of time that it's not just animated dinosaurs helped. That being said, using the WWD name pretty much set WWD25 up for comparisons that it can't win.

I did like the palaeontologist segments in general. It was interesting seeing the dig sites (I've never seen the Kem Kem beds before) and I appreciated that a diverse bunch of faces got the spotlight (the more media shows the diversity of people in science, the better). I agree that they were a bit shallow though, I wish there'd been a bit more explanation of the technology or how they knew stuff. The titanosaur footprints in the Kem Kem just looked like boulders, they needed more explanation for how this was figured out.

It's funny how WWD25 feels both censored but also as bloodthirsty as the original. There's no blood or guts, and most kills are offscreen or implied with sound effects, but it's still as committed to murdering babies; Clover's new friend getting eaten barely five minutes after being introduced was kind of hilarious, not gonna lie.
