Does anyone know where the W-Dragon Megalodon will be available for purchase? Lana Time Shop seems not to have it right now.

Paleofiguras added a boatload of comparisons a few days ago, don't think it's been posted here yet.

I also got mine last week! I'll add some pics when I get chance. But I can confirm its an absolutely magnificent piece.

Thanks a lot for the pics!!!!
I've been waiting for this before ordering mine !
But I wish there was more comparaison photos with the Itoy Megalodon, that's the real question which one to choose ?
The W-Dragon seems quite a bit larger.
Is the W-Dragon size a reasonnable possibility for this animal in 1/35 scale ?
Who is closer to the biggest reasonnable size estimations between the W-Dragon and the Itoy please ?

Excuse the terrible quality in the pics but it measures around 45cm in length, or 48cm following the curve, which works out at 16.5m at 1:35 scale. Perfectly reasonable. I use a scale of 1:40 for my display, which works out at around 19m. The most recent reconstructions place it at around 19m fully grown, though that doesn't account for the longer proportions relative to a great white. Ben G Thomas uploaded a good video about it recently https://youtu.be/pA6W2Ae7Xvo?si=lvqzzoB--LY-pk9M.

I feel like the W-Dragon Megalodon could still be a bit longer (and subsequently more slender) but it looks the part for me, and white still similar-ish, it's not just a scaled up great white. It's got the stubby snout and extremely large fins. It's also the least 'monsterized' megalodon figure out there, save maybe the tiny HLG figure. Itoy's definitely seems more like a scaled up white shark. That one didn't interest me so I don't really know too much about it. In saying all that, the iToy one does look more slender.

@Wally. Do you have a lot of in-scale animals? I'd love to see a full collection.

JimoAi

I'll be getting I toy  for it's slenderness and price but that figure is amazing.

PS: I'm getting that blue whale too

SenSx

Thanks for the explanations Wally-217.
But what about the latest researches that indeed talked about Megalodon being much more slender than we thought ?
I'd hate to buy an expansive figure that will prove to be inaccurate later.

DefinitelyNOTDilo

I believe that paper's been pretty heavily criticized and may not prove to be all that accurate

Well from what I red, both theories about bulky Megalodon and slender Megalodon have some speculation put into it.
We don't really know.

So I think we have 3 options at about the same price right now:

- W-dragon wich is the typical bulky reconstruction
- Paleokris which is the slender reconstruction from the latest study
- Itoy which is between the two, but still more on the bulky side.

I might still get the W-Dragon now, before it's too late.
Others will probably remain available longer.

Ironically enough the depiction "in-between" is likely the least accurate, as it's the one based on white sharks.

But couldn't it be similar to a white shark, just bigger ?

Not to downplay current science... But with an animal like Megalodon I feel this is an inevitability XD

So I have made some researches in order to choose the proper Megalodon figure on the market right now for me:

It is impossible to know the size and shape of Megalodon.
You cannot know that only from teeth, we don't know how big the animal will be proportionnally, nor do we know the spacing between the teeth.

There have been some temptative to calculate the size, but they are very speculative, they use an an algorithm with the size of the teeth, their spacing (which is speculative with megalodon) and the familly of the animal.
But in the end it did not even work for the existant animals, results are wrong even for white sharks.

The latest study we all heard about use a spine to calculate the shape of the Megalodon...but that spine is very old, it is from an other paper, and there are no proof that spine even belongs to Megalodon, without teeth at the tip of it, we don't know.

Otodus Megalodon does not belong to the white shark familly, so any reconstruction that makes look like it might be false.

All we can say is that Megalodon probably was between 10 and 20 meter long.
Potentially slightly smaller than the biggest whale sharks, and maybe bigger.

The W-Dragon stands at about the middle, 15 meter long, which sounds reasonable.
It's not just a bigger white shark like the I-toy, and since the latest studdy for more elongated shape is not serious, I might decide for W-Dragon.

But it's still cool to have the other options.

Over9K

To be honest, I grabbed the W-Dragon Meg for the pop-culture reference, being that it favors the film design... but then I did think they rendered a decent Megalodon.

SenSx

I would like to share my souces about he informations I provided, as there is always a risk to claim facts without reliable sources.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYuTik7X6Kc

This from the youtube channel Simplex Paléo, a interview from Valéoraptor that is not a researcher, but a Paleontologist specialist with a master grade in that subject, he knows megalodon very well.
It's in french so that is why I did not showed you first, but it's still very interesting if you can have subtitles.

I can't wait Megalodon to be revealed as just a bit large sized shark with Freddy Mercury teeth.  :))

That would be bigger upset than new dunkleosteus.
