I'm finding the brown/purple choice testing. But in the final analysis, I'm confident I would like either.

Samrukia

let's take a moment to appreciate that we have color options to choose from in the first place!
well done, Haolonggood  ^-^

For me nothing has changed since the first pictures - Argentinosaurus should be as dark as possible >:D ... and green is good (131). None of my other big HAOLONGGOOD sauropod figures (Alamosaurus, Mamenchisaurus, Apatosaurus) has even the slightest touch of green on it. It all works out for me :) . Now here's to a reddish Brachiosaurus!

Quote from: thomasw100 on October 11, 2024, 11:01:42 AMI agree that this gets confusing with all these pictures and videos in very variable light conditions. The green-gray limited edition (HLG-131) looks still very much like it appeared in the promotional images. The purple one looks very pale almost white in places (like areas on the neck and tail) now in some of these newer pictures, something that I initially thought could be the case for the brown (HLG-130) one. Now that one looks more saturated in color in the newer pictures actually. Making a choice between the brown and the purple would be very difficult. We really need static pictures from different angles in natural light.

Indeed. If the most recent pictures are what to go by, then the debate between the Brown vs Purple version starts all over again... Turns out the Brown version is much less pale as you said, which lends to a more cohesive presentation than the lightbox promo pics in harsh lighting.

My concern is that the tail and part of the neck could have very pale almost white areas which would resemble what I got on my Haolonggood brown Apatosaurus.

For this reason the Apatosaurus is now in the trusted hands of Dinosaur Models Artworks and will get a repaint along the lines of the Sideshow Apatosaurus.

I have actually messaged Lana Time Show and asked them to provide better pictures of both the purple and the brown variant of the Argentinosaurus. Hopefully they will come up with something.

I think we all need better pictures for most of them !
I really love the face, might like the limited green version as well.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I initially passed on the brown due to how white the belly and neck were, but the new pics look better. Ah well I went with the purple and it looks good too.  I skipped the purplish Alamo for blue so this works for me. Sometimes too many choices are just that, too much. lol

Also even the outdoor lighting pics, pale colors tend to reflect ones from the environment so that could be part of what we are seeing. That's why lightboxes and proper photography works best. Most of us to my knowledge aren't going to be displaying our figures outside.

Quote from: SenSx on October 11, 2024, 08:20:55 AMOh I did not check the price increase for Mamenchisaurus, got it before that...
I just don't want to rush the order of the Argentinosaurus if I'm not sure I want it just to get it at a better price  :'(

The price increase was quite substantial. Alamosaurus went up from 89.99 USD to 119.99 USD. And Mamenchsaurus went up even more from 65.99 USD to 99.99 USD.
For as much as we talk down on pnso for being pricy and praise HLG for being affordable I will say, that price increase on those two figures always rubbed me the wrong way, it seems very insensitive, imagine saving, and saving, and saving, only to see that the figure has gone up in price. I understand its a business and money needs to be made but I just feel like this is a bad practice. I definitely wont rush to get this one, I always like to watch a review or two, I'm also waiting for US retailors to get it to cut back on the shipping cost. There's smart ways about getting the figures we want, I usually always wait for whatever pnso figure I want to be on sale, and if it doesn't ever go on sale then I at least have a set price to work towards, I hope this argentinosaurus remains available for years out and doesn't see a price jump because I will say, I dont think I am willing to spend more than 300 (hell even 200) on a dinosaur model.

Shame that Huayangosaurus will not be available, especially because it has a refreshing pose!

Yep, it's a shame — to be a sidekick to a behemoth with no chance of being released as a full-on product. I DO hope that yet-to-come Ceratopsians will not share the grim fate of poor Huayangosaurus.

avatar_oscars_dinos @oscars_dinos Price increases between production batches are a shame but not unheard of. Material, labour and transport costs can fluctuate considerably. I don't imagine the price increases are due to only wanting higher profit margins.

As a company your options would be:
a) Maintain the same price, but decrease the quality. (PNSO's route with worsening paint jobs)
b) Maintain the same quality, but adjust price accordingly. (Haolonggood's route)

Does anyone remember how long the Alamosaurus and Mamenchisaurus were sold at the original price? With risky high investment items such as these two I'm not surprised production costs would be more volatile than the smaller safer offerings.

Yeah it's not super purple. I See some magenta, some red/orange under the throat, maybe some green too on the body? Plus the blue/white on the head and striping..it's a LOT of paint steps compared to the others.

Agreed. Definitely the most complex of the four. Hope all the subtle hues will be present on all 30 copies (+ however many ED gets?). I trust Haolonggood to maintain quality and consistency.

This is a very good model, clearly inspired by Prehistoric planet who did most of the heavy lifting on reconstructing a large titanosaur now that we have large parts of mainly patagotitan's skeleton. Only gripe I have is the tail not jutting slightly upwards titanosaur style breaking the slope from the back, but with this being the only gripe it is definitively one of the best mass produced titanosaur/sauropod reconstructions out there so far.

Missed out on the purple version since Lana spent too long updating shipping to my country, but the dark green version is just as striking.

I think the price of Alamosaurus went up right after the Chinese New Year holiday break. This could have coincided with a second batch being produced after the first batch for the pre-orders had been shipped. I remember Lana Time Shop posting something about a longer waiting time after the first batch was shipped. Price increase is about one third and it could have well been that the original price of 89.99 USD was set low to promote the take up of the figure by the market with a low profit margin.

Mamenchisasurus was a different story though. There was not the type of pre-order we have seen for Alamosaurus and now also for Argentinosaurus with exclusive items being included. Though I remember that there was quite some waiting time between order and shipping, so the Mamenchisaurus was not in stock when first orders were placed. Price increased some 3 to 4 months later I think, but going up from 65.99 USD to 99.99 USD is more than 50 % which cannot be explained by cost increase of raw materials etc. Not sure what is going on.

I just checked the sizes of the remaining ceratopsids and Utahceratops and Styracosaurus should be larger than Haolonggood's Chasmosaurus, so I expect they will be released on their own.  Einiosaurus however is smaller and I think it too might not be released on its own.  Maybe with Brachiosaurus?  And if Haolonggood makes Kentrosaurus it could be released together with Giraffatitan, since those two coexisted and I don't see Haolonggood stopping with the large sauropods... :-X

I understand the mind set, I think its just when figures are so expensive to begin with its a shame to see that price go up, selfishly, as an artist I dont mind if the paint apps weaken because I can always touch them up, but I understand not everyone might share this opinion

I really hope HLG's next large sauropod is a diplodocid like Barosaurus (after Brachiosaurus of course)

a lot of money in this video

Some madman will decide to make an Argentinosaurus herd in his collection.

Good for Haolonggood actually. Makes this Argentinosaurus more successful. Secures that the Brachiosaurus will be produced. Plus increases the likelihood for them to make even more large sauropods next year.

This is really the accelerated version of bone wars. PNSO dropped their Camarasaurus right after Haolonggood released theirs. Now Haolonggood dropped this even larger beast right after that and just after the national holidays in China.

And now we wait for PNSO to respond  :))

Considering how much they've slowed down this year, unfortunately I'm not sure if they will. Tbh with their 2024 release schedule I wouldn't be surprised if the Camarasaurus was their last one this year.

It's been a bizarre one considering they've been releasing on average a figure a month for four years in a row before this year. They've seriously hit the brakes.

Seeing the Haolonggood Tyrannosaurus in one of the Argentinosaurus videos makes me think the Tyrannosaurus hasn't been received as badly in China as it has internationally.  So we might not see a new Haolonggood Tyrannosaurus soon, which I hope will be the case.  I think it's not such a bad figure...

DefinitelyNOTDilo

Frankly that rex has grown on me. I still likely won't get it, but it's not as bad as I once thought it was.

The existing Haolonggood T. rex isn't bad bad. I would rank it higher than any of the ones from Papo or Schleich. It just doesn't measure up to the ones from BotM, Eofauna, and PNSO. It also doesn't measure up with Haolonggood's current toys.
