I love this picture. Permian figures especially those from 2000 to 2010 are just 😁😁😁 my niche preference

SBell

A pendant would mention that Placerias is Triassic, so not pre-Mesozoic (it was in the WwD episode with Postosuchus, etc)...but I can't help myself. It's not like there aren't several Permian dicynodonts!

I wouldn't get hung up over it. (Sorry, but as one pedant to another, I couldn't resist) ;D

Cynognathus and Shringasaurus are Triassic too!  And the Lystrosaurus might be too, depending on its species.

I guess I should have left it at "pre-dino" weirdos is what I enjoy! My mistake on the time scale description.  :*D

Lol the reward of the pedant is heightened scrutiny, isn't it?
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

I'd rather the timeline description than pre dino!
Permian-Triassic weirdos is a pretty safe catch all

Point taken :*D I'm just doing my best at descriptions, they don't always hit the mark.

I don't have a strong attachment to any particular species or model here- but once again I do really like anything prehistoric that isn't a dino because they get overlooked a lot (not I *don't* like dinos too, but the oddballs get a special spot in my heart). For me, its probably the arizonazaurus that has the most attachment for me as it was given to me by a good friend.

Saarlooswolfhound

More crocodile type friends!

I love every species in this photo. Postosuchus because of WWD, National Geographic had a special on Sarchosuchus that premiered when I was a young 'un and really left an impression, and who doesn't love the galloping croc Kaprosuchus?

Saarlooswolfhound

Now we move into the marine sector:

Again, liopleurodon is my favorite because of WWD (despite the gross exaggerations it covered). But I have also enjoyed the discoveries of these monsters from the UK and similar sites over recent years.

Saarlooswolfhound

And now for the giraffes of the sea! Ha!

Whats not to like here? Such diversity in this group, several cryptids were inspired by the human imagination, and just such interesting body plans for each one!

Saarlooswolfhound

Next up! Some more ocean predators.

I have loved the artistic style of the old Safari Tylo for a long time, and just recently added it to my collection. I still adore it and even more in person.

BlueKrono

The old Carnegie Tylosaurus and Elasmosaurus were my first prehistoric marine reptile toys, and inspired me to get all the others.
We are accustomed to look upon the shackled form of a conquered monster, but there - there you could look at a thing monstrous and free." - King Kong, 2005

Saarlooswolfhound

avatar_BlueKrono @BlueKrono, they are both lovely! I have a ways to go on the Carnegie Collection but I hope to get more over time (the other elasmosaurus color, the tanystropheus, and many others!).

The last of the marine reptiles are here!

The ophthalmasaurus again has nostalgic meaning for me from WWD. The Temnodontosaurus (again likely due to the scenes in WWD) is one I have a lot of fondness for though since its birthing new life (perpetually). And my most recent addition in the form of the Safari ichthyosaurus as it was a long sought after model is another favorite. But I do love them all!  :)

Trenchcoated Rebbachisaur

Nice bunch of Ichthyosaurs!
I own the Excalibosaurus and the Safari Ichthyosaurus myself, they're both great little figures.

Saarlooswolfhound

Ah, I like that little excalibosaurus too! For whatever reason I really enjoy its paint scheme.

Moving into the reptiles in the sky!

I don't know a whole lot about these reptiles, and in the last years they have diversified and had many new studies come out. I would say that I am most interested in the azhdarchids as that is one group I got to learn a bit about in college. But the diversity in these animals is incredible!

Saarlooswolfhound

And the other half of my flying reptiles:

Again, I have no particular attachment to these animals but for this particular set of models its all the head gear; whether it be teeth or crests these animals are all so crazy!

Trenchcoated Rebbachisaur

The PNSO Nemicolopterus... :O
Nice display! I wish we had more accurate Pterosaur figures tho, the gigantic CollectA ones are good but. Geez. Pricey as heck by CollectA standards and definitely do not fit in any established collection scales.

Thank you! That PNSO was too cute to pass up. And I hope to see more flying reptiles on the market in years to come!

And now to address the dinosaur in the room... Just a reminder, this has been a part of my collection that has been in hibernation for some time. And of course I do love dinos, but I also really enjoy what I feel like are the much less popular prehistoric animals (many you have seen already, and some you will see later). Anyhow- here we go!

Carnotaurus!

These have been a favorite for a long time. The Disney movie Dinosaur probably has a lot to do with that. But the extremely shortened face, tiny arms, and horned crests just seal the deal for me. That performance in Apple's Prehistoric Planet re-endeared them to me! I really like the whole abelisaur family.

Libraraptor

I like this thread! And I like seeing the Korbach Procynosuchus in yet another collection!
