Hey there guys! Recently I've been kind of rediscovering my love for all things Dinosauria, so it was nice to find a cool forum that also does figure reviews! I've actually been posting stuff for the last half hour or so, and just realized I didn't make an introduction thread!

Ok, so, important facts:

Favorite Dinosaur: Giganotosaurus
Favorite Dinosaur Figure: Giganotosaurus by Safari
Favorite Dinosaur Related Game: Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis
T-Rex vs Spino?: I think Spino vs Carcharodontosaurus is more viable, (Carcharodontosaurus for that one, btw. Spinosaurus is cool, but the shark-toothed lizard was a beast) but I guess I'll go Spino, who will avoid confrontation by intimidating the Rex with it's large size, helped by it's large and brightly colored (?) sail fin.
Other stuff: I'm actually pretty psyched this was still an available name. I figured it would have been taken already.

It is a fairly old joke, but I was trying to think of a screen name for this site, and that's the only thing moderately clever that popped into my head that also happened to be dinosaur related.

I find it offensive as I would any name that was a not-so-veiled insult to a religion.

The fact that some members around here jumped up and down in joy disturbs me even more.

If that is the way this forum is going to go I am gonna reconsider if I want to stick around.  If y'all wanna generate religious discussions, good luck with that - see how many people stick around.

Mods:  I will repeat what I typed privately to you:  There is no doubt (if you do a google search on this individual's nic) that you can reach any conclusion other than that the purpose of the name is to mock and offend.  I respectfully request that he be asked to change his screen name.

I wonder if some around here would have welcomed this individual with such open arms if his name was a play on gender, sexual orientation or one of the other major religions?  I think not.  So much for the myth of 'tolerance'.

I haven't seen any 'joy' either, more like familiarity/amusement/bemusement (that last one was meant to be on my part).

It's making fun of Jesus (a major figure in at least 3 different religions), how is that not a mockery? The user also claims to be "messiah" and "Jesus" in the thread title, being both blasphemous and disgusting to my eyes.

Upon careful consideration, I've decided to let this be. Although I have no doubt you are both genuinely offended, I don't regard it as intentional, and I don't regard being offended as a reason for mod-action. If RaptorJesus wishes to change his/her username, in light of this, that's their prerogative. I'm not a censor and I'm happy to tolerate more-or-less any username, unless it is an obvious direct attack.

I must also admit, I'm disappointed our new member received such a poor reception from our usually warm, welcoming, and tolerant community. I don't think the angry reaction is representative of us as a whole, and so I'd like to welcome RaptorJesus again, and hope this doesn't put him off.

dinotoyforum - And I am disappointed that the owner of this forum would allow what I can only surmise are his private beliefs to cloud his judgment regarding what is appropriate and what is not on this board, as well as what is in the best interests of the purpose of this Forum.

I wonder how fast I would be banned if I chose a name mocking the prophet Mohamed, or Jews, or homosexuals or women?  A nano-second I imagine - and rightly so.  Yet you allow the equivalent of such a mockery to be directed at Christians because, well, its politically correct to mock 'them'.

I see the username as Sbell sees it, as an essentially innocent "reference to a strange dinosaur image that has been passed around the internet since 2005". This is clearly how the user intended it to be seen too. I can understand, upon reflection, that more can be read into it than that, but to take administrative action would be overkill. Still, it is clear the username is upsetting some members, so I suggest we ask RaptorJesus, calmly and politely, if he would be kind enough to change it. I think that would be the best course of action, certainly preferable to the angry accusatory responses, and calls for administrative action, we saw earlier in the thread.

What do you say RJ, would you be kind enough to pick a different username? I'm sure those members who find it disagreeable would appreciate it.
