Has anyone reviewed Dinosaurs - The grand tour https://www.amazon.com/Dinosaurs-Everything-Knowing-Aardonyx-Zuniceratops/dp/1615192743?

I saw there's a new edition coming soon and was curious if it would be a good buy for a general look at a bit of everything.

Halichoeres

I have it and I think it's fine as a general intro.
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

I have that book. It's pretty basic information, and there aren't many illustrations. Most dinosaurs are shown as a solid-colored silhouette.
It was rather disappointing, to be honest.
But if you just want a book with a lot of dinosaurs in it with very basic information about them, go right ahead.

If I could recommend any dinosaur book, I'd recommend "The Most Complete Up-to-date Dinosaur Encyclopedia."
It's massive and chock full of information and beautiful illustrations. It's been one of my favorite books for years. Sure, it's aged a tad as science marches on, but it's still a lovely book.

I've actually ordered that one earlier this week, I should receive it Friday. I'm looking forward to it since it's been recommended so much. Thanks!

You won't be disappointed! It's great!

Another book I'd recommend is "Dinosaur Art: the Worlds Greatest Paleoart."
It isn't an encyclopedia nor does it contain much information about dinosaurs themselves, but rather it is a collection of beautiful Paleoart by some of the worlds greatest artists.
It's breathtaking.

Dinosaurs: A Journey to the Lost Kingdom looks good: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/2080203762

Thanks - I'll give it a whirl.  I've just ordered it from wordery.com as it's actually cheaper (often is) than amazon.co.uk.

The Rise and Fall of The Dinosaurs

Must read, albeit full of matters of course.  Heralds another dinosaur renaissance.

ZoPteryx

I'd like to put a good word in for Mayr's Avian Evolution: The Fossil Record of Birds and its Paleobiological Significance.

It's an excellent overview of not just the dino-to-bird transition, but also goes into decent depth on Cenozoic bird evolution, including discussion of many obscure groups.  It's also fairly well illustrated.  Definitely recommend to fellow paleo-bird enthusiasts!

I just finished reading the Mark Witton's book Pterosaurs. It is very interesting, with really good depictions of the different pterosaurs groups. Probably someone else has recommended it, but it is worth repeating. ;D

And of course the only negative review of that book is from David Peters. ;D
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

My favorite dinosaur book is The Princeton Field Guide to Dinosaurs. The skeletal illustrations are fantastic and I can't wait to get my hands on volume 2!

Just so you're not disappointed: the new one isn't a second volume, it's a second edition, so it overlaps heavily with the one you already have; just updated with new data and new species.

Okay, thanks for clarifying!

Anyone read Hallett & Wedel, 2016, The Sauropod Dinosaurs: Life in the Age of Giants? Any opinions?

I have this book and highly recommend it.  No question about the sauropods  remains unanswered,  the drawings and paintings are top notch and the text has been written by an expert.
