Hi.

Just looking for dinosaur projects in Kickstarter i've found a game that may interest us.
Its named Dinosaur Battlegrounds.

Quoting from Kickstarter:
QuoteIf you could imagine yourself living life as a prehistoric dinosaur, which one would you be?  Would you be an enormous, snarling, meat-eating Tyrannosaurus rex, stalking the environment in search of prey, or would you be a proud, hulking, but plant-eating, Triceratops with an attitude and fighting spirit just waiting for a T. rex to make your day? Well, this is your chance to help make that imagination come to life. Picture the Earth as it existed millions of years ago, fleshed out with stunning 3D computer graphics, filled with dinosaurs and other prehistoric life -- Designed to mimic the prehistoric world in every way -- More than a game, more than a simulation -- Complete with an illustrated, informative encyclopedia to provide you with the knowledge you will most definitely need to survive, and to thrive. Surviving the savage prehistoric worlds of the Dinosaur Battlegrounds will be a challenge unlike no other -- a game that puts the actual science of paleontology to the test, and allows you to come as close as you can to actually experiencing the Earth of prehistoric times.

Looks very interesting. I usually avoid dinosaur video games because they tend to well....suck.

Is this game just about fighting? Or is it a sandbox style game? If it's just a fighting game, then I'll pass. But I might check it out if it is the second one.

Good search, Mega! Looks like they aren't going to get their basic goal, however. That's too bad. Reading through, this game is so well designed in its planning stages, that I would definitely buy it...if it didn't have any fundamental design flaws. ex: It took a fan patch to make Klingon Academy playable without loads of crashes.
The only game I know of in which you can control a dinosaur is the 16-bit SEGA JP games and the very fun DinoRun from PixelJam; even with its anachronisms.
This would be a great game; hopefully it will be a world sim and not just 2 player fights - but I would be OK with that if it were all they could manage. There isn't any good dino fighting game I can think of; you can only have so many Diablo, Sauron and Talon matches. *sigh*

Edit update: backed the project $25. C'mon, people, let's help this guy bring dinos to life! Gotta educate the laymen as well!

You know, any board game can be made based off of resource allocation. All you would need are some good SCALED dinosaur models - possibly Papo after all - and adapt a system like X-Wing. You would need to modify attack and defense, and choose applicable rules for each species, but adapting it shouldn't take more than a day.
Would be a great use of your diorama props and dino models.

It starts as a fighting game, but if it reaches certain founds goal, it turns sandbox like. Check Project´s page for details.

Good review and very motivating. I get the sinking feeling that funding ain't gonna happen, however. So much for a good realistic game.

For what it's worth, the NHM's dino video games are very addictive: http://www.nhm.ac.uk/kids-only/dinosaurs/

There are only four days left until the end of this Kickstarter project. They need about $2,000 more, so if anyone is interested in seeing this game made, now is your last chance.

That looks pretty great too. I hope it all comes to fruition.

I hate to derail this topic a bit... but are you playing Monster Hunter on Wii U? I just got the system a week ago and I need some game recommendations.

The people behind saurian were actually partnered with the dinosaur battlegrounds people briefly in an attempt to pool resources, but eventually split after deciding to go in a different path.

Incidentally, the saurian people seem to be developing another game as well, Crynosaurs, using the CRYengine as its base.

Whoever they've got doing the animations on the critters is pretty good, I suspect it's the same person that's doing the modeling.

Interesting :) I backed Dinosaur Battlegrounds, and I am interested in seeing how it turns out, but I actually like the designs for the Saurian dinosaurs a lot more. They are less shrink wrapped, and the anatomy looks better modelled overall. And plus, the colour scheme for this Triceratops is amazing.

fleshanthos

Wow Gorgonzola. Those Trikes look like they were colored by someone on too much antidepressants.
I hope to hell they change the color scheme for  Dinosaur Battlegrounds!
Bound the be better than Chivalry.

It was nostalgic hearing that Benny Hill "yakkity sax" in the video; he really put his signature on that piece with being chased by scantily clad good looking ladies at the end of every episode.

You shouldn't see them pop up at all in Dinosaur Battlegrounds, as the people working on those trikes are part of a separate group of developers.  If I remember right, Saurian (and to a lesser extent Crynosaurs) mission statement is to recreate the living world of the Hell Creek Formation.  They've got some other videos showing things like T. rex animation cycles, Triceratops animation cycles, test footage, that sort of thing.  Pretty neat stuff, though I've noticed that they said they're using Unity for Saurian, which I've wondered why considering the great progress they've made so far in the CRYengine.  Best guess I can think of is Unity is a more flexible engine for what they need.

I rather like the color schemes on them though, or at least the overall idea for the Triceratops - drab patterns and colors on the back, really vibrant and dazzling in the front.  It's a nice contrast.

Ya, so long as the body doesn't have spots that are regularly spaced on the flat skin - looks really fake and amateur when wrapped around the wireframe body.
