Inflationary use of "Quote" - Button

I love being here. But I do not love scrolling too much.
It´s always annoying to scroll through long series of pictures which are being quoted in order to add a "Nice haul" or "Great pictures" - comment. The comments themselves are okay and encouraging, but can´t we begin a culture of "I refer to picture...." or something like that? Or can the moderators repeat commenting "please dont quote such long picture series" if such a "quote" - action has occured?

Yep, I find it annoying as well. I usually just edit out the photos and reply to the text only.

That´s what I (mostly, as I am not "innocent"...)  do as well, all of us should do it.

I wish we had a spoiler tag for the forum. That way I wouldn't feel so guilty about posting lots of photos when not everyone wants to scroll through them.

Libraraptor

I do like to see many new pictures, even in a row. But I dislike seeing them twice or even more often just to see the latest entry.

Gwangi

This has long been a pet peeve of mine, I can sympathize. Sometimes I call people out on it.

I could add a soft forum rule, more of a suggestion, for members not to quote long posts. I agree that is isn't necessary to always quote entire previous posts. The reply button will usually do.

Perhaps as a courtesy, breaking up even initial posts for 'groups' discussions might be well-served as well. When quotes are needed, it makes it easier--plus it breaks up the posts in bite-size chunks.

This was brought to mind after trying to look at the Rhinos...etc thread. There is a huge initial post...which was then quoted (for no reasonable purpose BTW). There are several examples at the ATF of breaking the intros into smaller bits.

stargatedalek

its not hard to chop out bits of a quote you are not replying too (especially images!)
yet it seems almost no one does it

I find scrolling through long reposts quite a pain, just had that experience a few minutes ago in another thread.

It's the same thread that inspired my comment.

In our toy forum, photos are not allowed to appear on a quote which has no relevance to a member's reply. Members are discouraged to quote all the photos, then post Congrats or something.  But members still include the irrelevant photos.  So it is now the moderators job to clean the posts thus, we have moderators for every toy line, for Marvel, DC,  Star Wars and even in the selling area.

I think anyone found guilty of this horrendous crime should be tossed to the "raptors"

I would personally go with the stocks and pillory.  >:D

Sounds like the mods might be creating work for ourselves if we enforse it as a hard rule. On the other hand, our forum is probably small enough for us to ask politely for the offending party to not do it again, as and when it occurs , i.e. treat the cause rather than the symptoms. I'll make it a soft rule so mods and members have some formal clout.

We do this too, ask our members politely thru PM. We attach the link of the rule to remind the member. It seems to work just fine, but you're right, we have too many members who don't read the rules or keep forgetting them. Hahahaha!

I'm following in your footsteps then :) What forum do you mod on? I'm sure you've said in the past but I can't remember.

Pinoy Toy Kolektors. I seldom visit the forum nowadays, when we transferred and we've divided into subgroups on Facebook, but we're still under PTK. I'm one of the admins of PTK Marvel Division. I  now let the younger ones attend to online matters mostly, although I was also tasked to be one of the admins of PTK on FB recently. I usually handle Toycon displays for our group PTK-MD and help on other toy con activities throughout  the year (we usually have 4), as host or auctioneer, runner etc. 😊

Thanks! I have more questions now but it would be going way off topic! However, I might quote you later here instead: http://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=2404.0

I agree. Seeing that jaw-less Dilophosaurus in the acquisitions thread over and over and over and over and over was making my blood pressure elevate.
