Man, I just cannot get over this Tyrannosaurus. I've been wanting the Battat T. rex for as long as I've been collecting. Even before I ever got to see it in person I knew right off that it was THE BEST mass produced Tyrannosaurus out there. I never thought I would own one of these bad boys. I collect at a fairly low budget. Now I have it, I can't stop looking at it! The Acro is equally great of course, but it's this T. rex I've been in love with and coveted most. Yutyrannus, don't worry about the standing issues. It's the only flaw on a flawless model. And I should mention that with a small support under the left foot it seems to stand just fine. Not sure for how long but my shelf is crowded anyway, there are enough other dinosaurs to lean on.

I'm happy for you Gwangi!  Having the v3 Battat MOS Tyrannosaurus from my childhood, I completely agree with the praise you and others who have the Terra T. rex have given it and share the happiness you get from it.  One thing that will be a new experience for me, is the new paintjob.  I find the original colour scheme is quite nice, but I think I might end up liking the Terra one's colour scheme more!  I look forward to (eventually) getting the Battat Terra T. rex!  I really like how well-muscled and strong its arms look.  I was surprised when I found out how strong Tyrannosaurus's arms are - its biceps are over 3 times stronger than a human's!  It looks like it was definitely using its arms for something!  I also find this is the best mass produced T. rex 8)

In case anyone wants to try to re-pose their Tyrannosaurus to improve its stability and it's of any help, I'll share how my Battat MOS Tyrannosaurus stands.  It's a version 3 one, so its sculpt is the same as the Battat Terra T. rex's.  It might not be useful since searching on Google images for "battat tyrannosaurus" shows some version 3 ones standing with their tail in the air (to different degrees), some with the tip of their tail touching the ground and ones with different degrees of tail curvature.  I imagine at least some of the differences in how these figures stand can be accounted for by the temperature of where they are.

Anyway, mine pretty much looks like this: http://www.dinosaurcollectorsitea.com/HellCreek_files/closetrex_bat3.JPG
As you can see, the tail doesn't curve down very sharply, although it does touch the ground (barely, though), and the part of the figure in front of the hips is tilted up.

My Battat T. rex is very well balanced and stands fine on its own.  If I stand it on the edge of a flat surface with its tail hanging over the edge into empty space it stands fine on just its two feet.

So if one wants to try re-posing their T. rex to improve its stability, maybe trying to pose it in the way I've described might be worth a shot?  It looks like probably this won't be helpful, but in case it is I thought I'd share it.

Why did the sagging problem happen again? If I recall that was one of the major complaints raised against the original toy line. It's seems weird that they haven't learned from their mistakes. Is a harder type of plastic needed, or are the sculpts just badly balanced? ???

Previous posts have reported that the plastic is cheaper and more pliable this time around, especially in the limbs. On top of that, the Acro has been repositioned into a tripod pose resting on one forelimb for support and the Rex is also too front heavy.

I wonder,    Can the Acro be HEat treated into a pose were it uses its tail as a Support?

I located the T-Rex and the Acro today. I have been fooling around with the T-Rex trying to figure out exactly what the problem is and if it can be fixed. The idea to put something under the left (leading) foot is the key. I perched the tip of the toe on the edge of a medium thickness guitar pick. That's all it took and it is staying there no problem. So I tried bending the middle toe down. It stood just fine for a minute or two while it slowly moved back into position. I don't work with plastics/vinyl but I would think that if someone could mix up just a little of something that would add a little stiffening and buildup to the bottom of that one toe, it would stand. Any suggestions?

Don B.

Just as a follow up, it does still fall over with the thickness of the guitar pick but it takes a few minutes. I still think that this may be the key.

Got my two tonight! YAY!! Of course they both look great (I have the originals, so I wasn't too surprised overall). But, although I've been more impressed with the Acro's paint job over Rex's in the pics I've been seeing on here, I actually really like the T. rex's look in person. The camouflage-like paint app makes so much sense for an alleged ambush predator. 8)

I also got them at a cheaper price than what they list for. Hehe! Let me explain... Yes, they were listed at $9.99 each, BUT, when I was checking out, the cashier asked me if I had a Target credit card, and if not, would I like to apply for one. She said just for applying right then and there, I would get $5 off my order. So I ended up getting them for $7.50 each... 50 cents cheaper than the first batches of smaller figures. LOL!

They only had two of each at my Target, which is in Jersey City, right next to NYC. So if anyone anywhere near my area still needs them, there are one each of them left. I would've just got all four, but I thought I had two $20s in my wallet, but only had one (and also stupidly left my debit card at home).

They also still had a good half dozen or more Pachy's left and one lonely Cryo. But that was it! I did ask this one woman who works in that department and who I always see each time I go there if she knew when any more of any kind of Battats would be coming in. She told me that they don't know what's coming and when. She said they actually get truck deliveries every day. And whatever comes in, they put out on the shelves. She suggested I take down the items' numbers and call the Target phone number found on their website, and they should know. But we all know how that has turned out. :P I was a little surprised she couldn't check on her hand scanner for that info like she did to see if there were any others still in back (which there weren't). If Walmart was able to check on their scanner for when their next orders of specific Schleich figures would be coming in, I would've thought Target could do the same, being a slightly higher-end department store. Oh well. ::)

BTW, I also checked out their JW toy supply. They're still pretty well stocked, including the Mosasaurus and a large remote control I-rex I didn't know about. It's about the size of the largest I-rex toy.

Thanks! I also like the original color scheme, and would love to have one with it some day. But this color scheme is nice too, I quite like it and now the pressure is off to get myself a Battat T. rex. It feels great, like a weight has been lifted!  ^-^

the new Battats have hit south Florida. I bought Rex and Acro(b/c I love the combo mint/dark green color).   :))

Thanks! I think I probably will buy it.

My sentiments exactly, Gwangi.

Shuvuuia

Just got my Acro :) He was only 9.99. My Rex, purchased four miles away, was 13.99. I don't understand city pricing.

Takama

I boght mine today, and they were 9.99 at my target.   I got both the Acro and the T.Rex for $21.38.

I can confirm that my T.Rex does not like to stand, but a little coin does wonders

Based on comments from other members in this thread, and my own playing around just now, I'm inclined to say it's an issue of balance entirely. If the figure's posture is tilted even a degree or two upwards, it seems to be fine.

Bah, despite having the WS Acro and preordering REBOR's Hercules, I kinda want this guy too!  I like the color scheme a lot even if I think the skull is a bit elongated.  But urgh, no Targets anywhere nearby and Battat's website said no stores within 100 miles of me are going to be carrying anything, so BLAH!
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

I don't think the locator on Battat's website actually works. It told me that there aren't any products available within 100 miles of my home even after I bought the T. rex and Acro from a store 25 miles away. Heck, it said the same thing when I put in the zip code for my old suburb of New York City.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time until these guys can be found nationwide. By this time next year we'll be tired of seeing them in our local Targets and be excited about whatever they plan to release next. It's totally worth getting and I actually just posted my review for it on the blog, check it out!

As a fan of Acrocanthosaurus have you looked into the Kaiyodo Dinotales model? I think you would like it.
