Although these criticisms are valid, the Favorite company obviously has their own business plan, and it doesn't involve annual dinosaur releases to compete with Safari, Papo and the rest. They've put together a set of 13 or 14 of the most popular dinosaurs all sculpted by the same artist and released them to Japan and the world (but mostly to Japan). The scale is one that is affordable- the sauropods (at least in the original 2004 series) are 1/80 scale, which is similar to the wild Safari issues. The others are mainly 1/50 scale, which pretty much makes them comparable to Carnegie and Battat - the Triceratops is similar in size as is Stegosaurus, the Favorite Styracosaurus is actually much larger than those by Carnegie or Battat, their Pachycephalosaurus is the same size as Battat's. The Allosaurus and T-Rex in 1/50 are much smaller than their 1/40 counterparts, but make up for it with stunning sculpts and detail that puts larger models to shame. And their 1/20 scale Deinonychus is one of the best raptor models out there.
So scale is not an issue with me, especially since Battat is now the only player left in the 1/40 scale category. If you only buy 1/40 scale you won't be buying very many dinosaurs.
As for the museum releases, they are clearly meant for the Japanese market only. Thanks to Brett and others, we are able to get our hands on them, for a price. But it's not like the Favorite company is trying to ignore the rest of the world. When you make a specific model for a specific exhibit or museum you're not making it in mass quantities. If the Tamba sauropod release is any example, the Japanese seem genuinely amazed that the model created such a buzz outside of Japan.
So I hope Favorite continues with its special releases, because that's the only way we'll see them do new dinosaurs (at least for another 8 or so years, when we get the next reboot of the entire line).

I think most of understand that Favorite has a business plan that does not include the mass production of dinosaur models, that doesn't mean we can't lament that fact with so many great exclusives! And by all means, make more exclusives but a few obscure genera for us more casual collectors would certainly be welcomed.

It should be released soon.  (I still don't know what they will call it in the end)

Not bad, but the colour could be a bit more imaginative.

Once it's released, where could one buy this? Sorry, I'm not informed of this line and products. Would it readily be available on Ebay, for example?

The first weeks it will only be available from Favorite's homepage, Brett for example can get it from there.
After a while it will appear on eBay just like the other figures did.
It's not recommended to buy it from the sellers that offer it first on eBay for profiteering prices, it's usually better to wait a bit for reputable offers. It shouldn't cost more than about 12 - 15 Dollars.

Thanks. Any word on when the shark will be released?

Favorite seems like they are releasing these "Prehistoric Life" figures in pairs (Anomalocaris/Dunky and Archelon/Dimetrodon), so I am really interested to see the progress on that wonderful Opabinia sculpt!

This Megalodon is well sculpted and suitably robust, and is at least much more convincing than the lackluster Safari model.

Same here.
I already have the anomalocaris + its mini version. Hope they decide to make a mini opabinia version too.

And I already asked Brett to get me a Megalodon.

Opabinia is great.
But we are getting a BIG soft megalodon. Here you are comparison pics:

Do you want to get a big one?

I do.

Opabinia looks great!

Of course I want a big Megalodon. If only to place its jaws around Safari's disappointing Meg figure. ;)

Dobber

Strange that the small one looks better. The tail looks really thick.

I just checked favorite website.
The big Meg is part of the vinyl model series, the figures from this subline are bigger than the soft model ones and there are made of a softer material, there are more like "toys" than models, so thats why it doesn´t look as good as the small one.

The Favorite Vinyl Series is bigger but less detailed than the Soft Model Series.
Check out the Vinyl version of the Mammoth, Smilodon, Dimetrodon and Archelon: they are so and so....
The big version of the Dunkleosteus looks fine; same as the Anomalocaris.
The Vinyl version of the Megalodon seems to be a big toy for children or so......

The Soft Model Megalodon is really good:

Same as the new Favorites:
