Let's see some love for the Loveland Frog!

Thunderbird has to be my favorite cryptid followed closely behind by devil deer and wampus cats, any plans to do something with any of those?

Not at first, unfortunately. Due to feasibility issues humanoids will be the main focus for the beginning of the series.

Cool, any particular cryptid you want to me to first (maybe give me a list...?)

Sure thing! Is it okay if I list it here?

(Also, thank you so much for agreeing to help!)

That would be great, especially as my PM system won't work for some reason :P

Alrighty then (Thank you again for being so generous)
(Hope this isn't too long a list!)

1. Sasquatch
2. Chupacabra (Reptillian version)
3. Manticore
4. Tarasque
5. Thunderbird
6. Jersey Devil
8. Loveland Frog
9. Ahool
10. Nessie

I think ten is good enough (at least for now....thanks again!)

Wampus cats can be humanish so that may fit, but are mantacores crypt ifs now? I mean does anyone claim to see them anymore?

I thought a wampus cat was just a large black feline. But whatever, we can make it fit since 90% of these things do no exist. No, I do not think anyone sees manticores anymore, I want to focus on everything from clearly mythical to the slightly possible cryptids.....except for surviving non-avian dinosaurs since that is 99.99999% impossible.

Oh cool not bad, and wampus cats can vary, big black cats probably legends past from when there actually used to be Jaguars in the southern states, to some Native American legends that clearly state they were half man half panther.

Don't know how well this link will work but the picture of the wampus in this book shows kinda a mix of the ideas, obvious panther head but the arms and legs and human shaped

You could try on deviantART. Also, I'm starting to work on a Sasquatch concept based mainly on Australopithecines (I always try to make cryptids look plausible by basing them on real animals). As I don't want to over face you in terms of production, I wondered what kind of effects you would be using to bring these creatures to life (I get the impression you're using practical effects rather than CGI) so that I can cater for that in my concepts.

Finally, about wampus cats: as far as I can see from my own research they have variously been portrayed as half woman, half cat (as per the Native American origin myth), as a cat with six legs, or as an ordinary looking cat that is exceptionally fierce. On the whole the animal it is compared with most is the cougar, but I've also heard it being described as like a bobcat.

Yeah I've put a link in the last reply with picture of what I was thinking of with the wampus cat.

There definitely other forum you could show your stuff on, specifically cryptic forums.

Also you could set up a patrion for it, I'd throw a dollar a month at this project to help out

We will be using a generic monkey suit for the main furry parts, somehow tightening it to fit snuggly against the actor. Then we want to have prosthetic make-up and the like on the face in order to portray the creature feeling/acting/emoting/and eating. I hope to do the same type of make-up for the hands and feet. I figured an australopithecus/neanderthal type look would fit well. I want to use CGI eventually, maybe when we have more funds and knowhow. Plus, right now, my group only has three members. We are definitely trying to make it a much bigger thing. Next year it will be an official "club" at my high school....so yeah!

Did you want some reference pictures to conglomerate an apeoid form? or are you good?

Really? I want to do a kickstarter as well, but a patreon sounds good. Do you have any knowledge about it at all? I know about it, I will probably go and check it out!

I've never had the need to set up my own kickstarter or patrion, but I know patrion is better for prolonged serialized projects like that, plus it's not terrible hard to get a few people to give you a buck a month, and you don't need to wait with bated breath to see if you reach your goal to see if it was a waste of time or not, like with kickstarter.  If you ever are interested in having merch or giveaways I do sculpting and casting at reasonable prices I'm full up on commissions right now but if you think of something you want in the future let me know.

Paleogene Pals

I thought the wampus cat was one of those 'fearsome critters' like the hidebehind or sqounk. I applaud you guys for such an ambitious undertaking, especially for high school. Should be an interesting project though.

Pah! That's nothing. Living in Scotland as we do, my famil net wild haggis all the time. They're easy to catch because they run around a hill in one direction, so they end up with the legs on one side longer than the other. You just have to get them to change direction and they roll down the hill and into the net. We mostly sell them to butchers and feed to leftover bits to the cat, the dog and the Velociraptor, but I would quite like to taxidermy one one day. ;) I'd also like to bag myself a, Elwetrisch or a jackalope one day, but we don't get them in these parts so I'd have to travel for that.
