Dobber

Thanks for the heads up Suspy.  ;)

I must say, something looks off to me, with how their Rex looks. The head just looks strange....maybe it is it's position.  ???

I... don't really know what to say. I see people are excited and I really hate to be that person but I'm really not feeling this. "Armor plating"? Since when was that a thing? Oh and of course "bristles", because you can't actually say the word feathers when talking about a tyrannosaur... The special effects look alright but the acting is not great and it seems they dumbed their science down either for the trailer or for the whole thing, which to be honest is something I would expect from Nat Geo.

Look I'm sorry for being a party pooper, but I gotta be honest...

Blade-of-the-Moon

Looks interesting.. but some of those quotes :

"brings a team of scientists face-to-face with one of those giant lizards,"
"learn the lizard's many secrets."

Are they really focusing on the non-avian aspects?

I don't mean to sound rude but...I don't understand why people are saying it has feathers. It just has a little row of bristles along its back, otherwise it's naked. This reminds me of when people say that the green Favorite Ltd. Tyrannosaurus was feathered, even though all it had a narrow row of fuzz. Honestly, it's more unfeathered than it is feathered.

When people say feathered, I think of this:

It's just me being pedantic I guess. I won't be watching anyway, since I can't stand televised autopsies (even fictional ones in this case). On the plus side the special effects they are utilising for the Tyrannosaurus look pretty gorgeous.

As far as the terminology goes, it's possible that they will examine the bristles in more detail and explain how they are actually feathers. And as far as the acting is concerned . . . come on, give them a break. They're three palaeontologists and a veterinary surgeon, not thespians.

I'll try to catch it. Looks interesting. Anything new with dinos I try to see at least once.... good or bad. 8)

But I have to agree with Dobber. As good as the overall appearance seems to be (it actually looks pretty convincing that it could have been a real live animal), they're really off on the shape of the head. It's a bit puzzling since they mention that he's one of the most recognizable dinos ever. ???

Pretty good, but not as good as Hall Train's ( https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL473420881A34F18C&spfreload=10 ) or Kokoro's ( http://www.agefotostock.com/en/Stock-Images/Rights-Managed/MEV-10717789 ).

The pics in this link show that the head actually is credible, so I guess it was just the video that made it look wonky: http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/t-rex-autopsy/

I understand how you feel, but it's too soon to judge. We've only seen the 1st 5 minutes & 1 trailer. Also, to be fair (in reference to "Armor plating"), Gamble isn't a paleontologist. As for the rest of the above quote, see Hutchinson's "T. rex Autopsy: My Backstory" ( http://whatsinjohnsfreezer.com/2015/05/20/t-rex-autopsy-my-backstory/ ).

To be fair, those are quotes from the article, not from the doc.

What about "Inside Nature's Giants" ( https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0030A8A975F68DB8&spfreload=10 )?

That playlist is blocked in my country.

Anyway, I have seen it on television and I will say "no thank you"...it's too graphic for me.

Yeah....it's not so much the sculpt of the head but more how it sits in relation to the body....90 degrees straight ahead like it had the upright tail dragged stance. Or it kind of reminds me of the new REBOR velociraptor hatchlings head positioning.

suspsy

Yes, that size comparison is valid.

Not to be dated, the preview feels kind of like Alien autopsy to me or something from the sy fy channel.  But to be fair, no judging until it is aired.

You owe it to yourself to at least try to watch the cassowary episode which is basically as close to a real T. rex autopsy that you can get. The episode is even titled "dino-bird". Shame you can't handle the graphic stuff, it's an incredibly fascinating show.

tanystropheus

Mockumentaries tend to confuse the (gullible) general public just like that War of the Worlds radio broadcast.

ITdactyl

I'm surprised we're getting the show on Nat Geo this month.  We usually get "new" shows from these channels almost a year late.  Happy days.

... when they took out that chunk of armor/osteoderm (was that from the belly?), it did "feel" like they were taking a kaiju costume apart though.

'Still, excited.

Dobber

For those of you interested, I just scrolled ahead in my channel guide to set the DVR to record the show and saw that Nat geo is showing Dinosaur related shows all day leading up to autopsy. Just a heads up for you all. I believe the shows start at 11:00am est and run till 9:00pm est which is when Autopsy airs.
