Well, this is good news.  Although I don't think we will have an intense Dinomania like in 1993.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Avengers is officially beaten, now its time to crush Avatar and return the JP franchise to its rightful place! ;D

I don't think ANY of us expected THIS:

"'Jurassic World' Destroys Record for Global Box Office With $511 Million Debut"

I just bought our 5 IMAX tickets for next Tuesday's showing.  I'm looking forward to it.  Looks like quite a thrill ride.

I am amazed.  I know the reviews were good, but I never thought another dinosaur movie would have the draw of the original Jurassic Park; heck, maybe its that Mosasaurus that did it?  That one scene with the Great White as bait is iconic...
I'm very happy to hear that.  I expected the worst and I was pleasantly surprised. Looks like Trevorrow's gamble paid off. Chris Pratt has confirmed a sequel:

Mr. DNA is actually voiced by Colin Trevorrow. The original Mr. DNA passed away in 2008.

A few more:
-Scars on T-Rex (before I-Rex fight), reminding of its earlier fight with Raptors (which makes her acceptance of Blue all the more poignant).
-Kids going through divorce issues
-Malcolm's book on Lowery's desk
-Actual merchandise for the movie available in park's gift shop
-Dinosaur poop joke (deleted, but still)
Actually, I saw that more of a "Screw it, I'm too old to deal with your s**t little raptor."
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

Another callback was when the one raptor was knocked over by the mobile vet unit, it was knocked over like TBO in the kitchen scene. Also rexy, after smashing the spino skeleton, roars in a pose similar to the one she did when she first broke out.
As for the gate, it was said that the wood came from the original park, I don't think it specified where.

EDIT: The crow scene in the beginning is similar to Malcolm's firs appearance in TLW where it looks like he's on the island when really he isn't.

Awesome a sequel! Anyways... the biggest *word i forgot when typing* in history? Well, they were the biggest land animals in history so they have an excuse. The g.w.s as bait has officially become the thing that represents JW... just like the water ripples in the first film.  ;)
like a bantha!

1.  When staff are sent to recapture the Indominus, there's a scene where the Indominus runs after them in an area with mud and water, stepping on a person in the process.  This reminds me of a scene in The Lost World, where a Tyrannosaurus runs after people in an area with mud and water, stepping on a person as it does so.

2.  The Velociraptors in Jurassic World STILL being featherless and more based on Deinonychus than Velociraptor reminds me of the ones from previous JP films.  ;)

I would say that the river attraction is a call back to the original novel. The same could be said of the aviary but by this point "pterosaur aviary" is such a cliche we can't really say that.

I wonder how that stacks up in terms of..2D-openings versus openings in 2D vs 3 D and also how that 500 million now compares to the amount the original brought in allowing for inflation...

This is the break up of 2D and 3D (IMAX) showings for the first worldwide opening weekend...

As of June 15, 2015, Jurassic World has grossed $234.2 million in North America and $315.3 million in other territories for a worldwide total of $549.5 million, against a budget of $150 million. Its worldwide opening of $524.1 million is the biggest of all time; it also marked the first time that a film had generated over $500 million worldwide in a single weekend. The film also set the record for largest worldwide IMAX opening with $44.1 million (breaking Iron Man 3‍ 's record) and a single day IMAX gross of $13 million on Friday, June 12, 2015.

I'd say the crow was more convincing lol.

I saw the TV spot with this scene and thought a comparison would be worth posting:

It was only on screen for a couple of seconds, so I might be wrong, but the bird looked more like a European blackbird than a crow. And I think it was CGI! They couldn't even bother with a real bird!
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

Did anyone mention the sound of the wire snapping when the Mosa grabbed the shark? Sounded just like the T-Rex breaking free in JP.

It probably would've been too difficult to get a real bird close enough to the camera for that shot of the foot.

I did catch that! There in the theatre I thought, "hey, I should keep that in mind for the 'callbacks' thread", and then promptly forgot  ::)

Marvel's Kevin Feige congratulates the cast and crew of  Jurassic World in a special way:
